I'm pleasantly reading through the tau and eldar and can't help but come to the conclusion that the 9 flyer necron crap is on its dying legs, so much overwhelming firepower, and the resurgence of tau and their prevalent anti flyer capabilities as a primary or allied detachment is going to force the dominant flyer armies to shift the play style a bit. The same for heldrakes which are utterly game changing. As the game continues to balance out for 6th edition, more codices are getting solid anti flyer, I'm sure the upcoming vanilla marine codex will provide plenty of buffs and enough skyfire not including the fact they can easily ally in tau..it's just a safe assumption considering vanilla marines are gw's baby. It will be awesome to continue seeing more variety at tournaments not only in army books represented, but diversity in lists. Adepticon demonstrated necrons as being the popular choice in allies or primary, because they are incredibly strong, and without spamming flyers the codex has all the tools to do the job efficiently, awesome troops, awesome fast choices, great utility in crypteks and lords, I don't think they'll be going anywhere anytime soon. The only thing I'd like to see is a balanced, updated, and a bit stronger sisters of battle and tyranids. Orks will probably be a release similar to eldar where there are more tweaks than overhaul because they still maintain a quite good army list with a lot of versatility and fanatastic units with others that need updating and tweaks(awesome flyers too). I do believe the meta that is dominated by flying units and large squads will shift to more of an emphasis on decent sized units and troops primarily, with less emphasis on flyers, similar to what it is now, just with less flyers from necrons specifically, maybe a few less vendettas here and there, but I'm sure heldrakes and fmc's are here to stay, with more available to deal with them. Blood angels although still good may end up hitting the bottom of the barrel with sisters and nids to an extent, because they're assault oriented and their shooting although good and spammable to a point isn't as strong as a lot of other armies.
Dark eldar will also become better when they don't really have to worry about flyers as much, I think their biggest current threat is chaos because of heldrakes, and the fact that 2-3 of this bad boys coming on the table will reduce a dark eldar army to ruin in a turn or two. In my opinion the strongest stand alone army right now is without a doubt tau because from a tournament standpoint, they're anti meta, and pack a hell of a lot of firepower, necrons will remain up there as well simply because they have few to no weaknesses unless you spam flyers (tau will eat you). Grey knights will still see play and are strong, but without guard allies I don't see them holding their own versus the aforementioned armies, that can stay out of their relatively short range and shred them. Eldar are to be seen but are quite good on paper and the 2 games screwing around with the new book they've proven to be rather overwhelming with the firepower available and their incredible synergy with tau allies. Guard are just good, and the rest of the field I havnt mentioned yet still have the tools to win (magic bolter banner raven wing will see more love I feel too), just IMHO aren't as strong as the ones I've recently mentioned. I really wish tyranids would get an update soon though, it just bothers me that gene stealers and the brood lord aren't nearly as good as they were in the prior codex.
Sending some love from North Carolina as always,
Cheers
