Hey all I am just starting to get back into 40k after a break extending probably around 6 or 7 years! I just got my hands on a new copy of the 4th ed rules and have started reading them over and I would like to know if there are a couple of players who wouldnt mind me just observing a game and maybe answering some questions on the finer points and explaining things to me. It seems like a lot has changed since I last played, which I believe was under second edition rues, and I would like to see exactly how things work before I start planning out my army and making purchases etc. I played dark angels back in the day but it seems they are a dime a dozen now and there are a little too many special rules for my taste so I plan on building up a crimson fists army so watching a space marine game would be a bonus but not a requirement. I appreciate the time, if anybody plans on being there thurs or next thurs etc and thinks they can help just post back maybe when you expect to be there. Sunday is my day to have the bills break my heart every week so I probably wont be there then. Thanks in advance, Phil

Welcome back!
You are always welcome to sit in on any games. We normally play thursday nights and all day sundays starting at noon. Come on in an introduce yourself, we will be happy to explain whatever you want to know about.

Hmmm, after some debate, I think I'll join in observing as well, though it'll probably be opposite days for me, as Thursday I'm even farther from Rochester than normal. XP
I've been tempted to get back into 40k ever since I went and saw the new Apocalypse scale battles. Can't say I ever played much at all or anything, saw and played a demo or two probably a good 8 years ago, and really would have liked to play, but the cost, my age, and the area I lived all pretty well made that impossible. I did pick up a few things, one of the old space marines/dark eldar 40k starter and some eldar, though they all got wrecked a while back. So what with the new deals for large groups I was considering getting some and starting up again, or for the first time, since I didn't get much of an oppourtunity to get started before.
Also, as you mentioned your old fav gumbafish, my fav had to have been the Black Templars, I liked a lot of their flavor and looks, however, there's a lot more choices for armies now, and probably a number of changes, so I've been on the fence about who I'd want to start off with.

It looks like there will be early games on thursday throughout the day. At night they usually start playing after 5 or 6.

It looks like I'll have to postpone comming untill next thursday, I woke up feeling rather under the weather today. I did manage to get through all of the rules in the rulebook though so at least I can re-read some bits that were a little more confusing.

Well, I happened to get out early and so I figured I'd head up there and check it out. Was quite a bit of fun just watching. Saw two different Eldar armies beat up Marines and Chaos Marines, and even better, an Imperial Guard army beating up some Chaos Marines.

That would be me beating on the Chaos marines both times. Not overly impressive since it was Dacius and he's still learning. My guard wiped him off the table and my eldar came up one model short of doing the same. Kid has quite a bit of learning to do still.
Glad to help with the observations. Feel free to ask more questions next time. You were sort of quiet.

Will do, I mostly just wanted to watch a few games first, hence me being rather quiet. Now that I've seen a bit, I'll probably be a little more vocal over time, because usually I observe for a while, choose what I want to say after doing that, and then say it. Same is true for most decision making and whatnot for me, just part of the way I am I suppose. And any questions I have, I'll be sure to ask.

Actually no. He dropped the vindicators for a pred in one game and had no tanks in the 2nd game, going for a demon prince instead.
I don't really think it's his army selection that's the problem. It's his tactics. He holds back when he should commit, commits when he should hold back, and makes other similar type mistakes. He'll learn in time.
