Angus II
Techmarine Artimen cursed as he made the necessary preparations to wake Ancient Brother Angus.
“Why do I have to send him to battle again. I just got him patched up. He’s going to go out and get blown off of his feet again. At least there has been no word of Superheavies in the area. Maybe he won’t pick a fight with a battlecannon.”
As Angus’s sensors came online, he heard his friend complaining and felt bad. He had always tried hard to please Artimen, but he never seemed to get it right. “I’m sorry Artimen. I will try to get it right this time. What do I have to do?”
“Hrmph. Just bring yourself back in one piece. I’ll be happy with that. As for the situation, it seems that one of the other chapters has taken exception to our methods and wants to pick a fight. It’s really as simple as that.”
Angus stood straighter. “Why can’t we all just get along?”

The drop had gone smoothly. The enemy had been sighted on the horizon, but nowhere closer. Angus was a little concerned at being put on babysitter duty. It seemed that the Commander didn’t trust him enough to give him anything better to do than baby-sit the recruits. Not that the new kids were bad, but Angus felt he deserved better. But, he would do what his commander ordered. Maybe it would make Artimen happy.
“Alright kids, let’s get going.”
A voice boomed form behind him. “I’ve got you covered Brother Angus.” It was Ancient Brother Plato. Angus wondered what Plato was doing back here. Plato was usually sent off alone. “Plato, why are we back here? Does the commander have something against us?”
“I think he is full of himself Angus. He doesn’t want us ancients mucking up his time in action.”
“Why? Does he think we’re stupid?”
One of the recruits looked back, evident awe on his face. “How could anyone think such noble beings as yourselves as stupid?”
Plato’s chuckle sounded metallic coming from his amplifiers. “With Angus’s past record, I can see where he could get the impression, but he seems to forget that we always get the job done.”
All of a sudden, a bright lance of light shot by, barely missing Angus and Plato, and screams were heard coming over the Comm line. The sergeant of the scouts started yelling orders, “Get up there. We have what appears to be a tactical squad with a lascannon in that little crevice between the hills. We need to take them out now.”
Plato and the tac squad assigned to him moved off to the side a bit to minimize the clumping of targets in one place, but his assigned squad got a little overexuberant and charged towards the enemy with a blood curdling scream.
Angus looked on in shock as the enemy came out to meet them. It wasn’t that so much as the hulking forms coming up behind them that worried him. Terminators would eat the tac squad for lunch. “Sergeant, we got to help,” was all Angus said as he started pushing his servos to their limit.
In his headlong rush, he just heard the Comm chatter.
:“*crackle…cchrrrr…*Chaplain Ignatious is down…I repeat, the * crackle…cchhrrrrr…* “:
:“Dreadnought on the center line. Take it out.”:
Plato’s voice came over next, :“I’m on it, but I could use some help.”:
:“Attack Bike Delta coming in fast. Should be there in 5 seconds.”:
:“Tac squad II under heavy fire. Please assist…aaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”:
Then all hell broke loose as Angus hit the line. He crushed the Terminator sergeant with his fist and kicked another terminator in the side. His charges, the fresh scouts, fought bravely, scurrying over the hulking forms, trying to find the right places to cut or dig their blades in. The sergeant blew the face off of one terminator with his plasma pistol. Then, there were no more enemies engaged, but there were some on the flank. Angus Lumbered towards them in a rage, angry at the trouble they were causing.
:“Selina has gone down. She nailed the commander’s unit, but failed to achieve her objective. I repeat, the enemy commander is still active.”:
:“The enemy Dreadnought is no longer a threat. Not unless you get to close and burn your skin.”:
:“This is sniper team I. We are about to be engaged. Any assistance would be appreciated.”:
And then it happened. Angus spotted the enemy commander and his “blood” boiled. He saw the recruits overwhelming an enemy unit, and heard Plato confirming his imminent arrival to aid the snipers. No one seemed to be in position to deal with the commander. “This will make them so proud of me.” He ran as fast as his servos would take him, and blew the enemy off of his feet in the charge. The librarian rolled back to his feet, and dodged the next few blows, dishing out a few of his own. Try as he might though, the librarian couldn’t hurt Angus’s thick armor, and eventually, he missed a dodge. The enemy commander was no more than a bloody smear on Angus’s Fist. Angus reached down, and picked up the banner the librarian had been carrying, and started to move towards the sniper team, hoping to help out.
:“The enemy is breaking and running. Their commander is dead. We are victorious.”:
Angus was surprised by this outburst on the Comm channel. Perhaps because this was the first time he had ever heard such a report come through. He was just happy it was done.

Techmarine Artimen looked very surprised to see Angus walking into the Dread shed. Angus and Plato were discussing the battle as they came in, and neither of them had a mark on them. This was not unusual for Plato, but it was a miracle for Angus. Artimen wasn’t quite sure what to make of it.
Angus walked up to his friend and held out his giant power fist. “I have a present for you.” He opened the fist an out fell the enemy standard, right into Artimen’s waiting arms. “I thought you would like it, and I hope it will make you proud of me. I just want you to like me like everyone likes Plato.”
Artimen was shocked. He had heard that one of the dreadnoughts had killed the commander and saved the day, but he had never dreamed it could be Angus. He was positively stunned. “Angus, old friend. I have always been proud of you. I just get frustrated with the amount of trouble you seem to get into. This banner is your honor, hard won. It will hang in your chamber while you rest, and be there when you awake. And since I don’t have to patch you up, I will see about those upgrades that I’ve been promising you. How’s that my friend?”
Angus mentally grinned, and Artimen could swear he saw it through the viewplate.
“Don’t worry. I won’t let it go to my head!” Angus then quietly lumbered into his chamber and shut himself down for a well-deserved rest.
