Kor- Vre Gina banked her Barracuda hard to the left spinning the ship as she turned. This maneuver allowed her to narrowly miss the fire from the Gue'la “Hell blade” fighter. The Air caste pilot was followed by her wingman who also evaded fire from the enemy fighters. The two tau pilots quickly fell behind a pair of Gue’la Hell talons and blasted the bombers apart with their ion cannon main armament. All the while Drone controlled bust cannons kept the clumsy hell blades from settling in to lock on the tau fighters.
Air caste squadrons had mobilized the moment that they had translated from the other realm. And not a moment to soon. This world had been occupied by gue’la forces between the last survey mission and when this new tau fleet brought colonists. Some poor gue’la had claimed the world in the name of “The Geonotion Steel Deamons, the 13th Grand Company,” whatever that was. However the Aun had already declared this world was to be a colony in the tau empire.
Kor- Vre Gina glanced behind her to see one of the pursuing Hell Blades erupt into a ball of fire. His fighters Drones had finally found their mark. Gina began her spin to face the pursuing fighter using her point rotation thrusters. While doing so she quickly checked her fuel and ammunition supplies. Both were in excellent shape. Kor- Vre Gina’s depressed her firing switch sending out a barrage of ion cannon blasts at the hell blade. Most missed or scattered off with only glancing impacts yet a few hit their mark and blasted apart the armored cannopy of the pursuing fighter. A Gue’la was exposed to the vacume of space and ceased firing as it perrished.
The Air caste pilot tracked a squadron of Gue’la bombers that had slipped past the initial fighter combat space patrol. There was still time to intercept the hell talons before they reached the Custodian which was Gina’s base ship. Full thrusters ignited, giving the barracuda blinding speed to close the distance to the attacking bombers. Kor'vesa drone bomber squadrons passed the barracuda. They were already being launched to begin attacks on Gue’la air bases on the ground.
Kor- Vre Gina approached the attacking bomber and ran a full scan of the Hell Tallon. It was a one crew fighter bomber. This one a blackened metal color with a coppery yellow and black striped trim. The pilot was not purely of Gue’la genetics according to the barracuda’s simple scans. Perhaps modified to pilot the ship, perhaps some non associated mutation. The Fighter carried a medium load of bombs and was as nimble in space as in the atmosphere. Its armor was no better than the barracuda he flew but the bomber was no where near as maneuverable and did not have drones for rear point defense.
Ion cannons blasted into the body of the bomber causing its payload to explode. Its pilot shot out into space cursing Gina with its last breath and a wave of a tentacle arm. The remainder of the bomber squadron tried to complete their bombing runs, they must have been more afraid of failing their mission than death at the point defence guns of the custodian or its combat space patrol.
In an hour’s time the space was commanded by the tau fleet.
