Rangerdude takes on the might of Jay's Big Bugs
"At last, we have found the lost repository."
Ni'Rau Tsecha, farseer of the Idomeni craftworld showed a rare smile as he looked over the land. He and his force had been looking for a repositry of soustones left by an exploring force that had been decimated. The survivors had decided to hide the soulstones in the hopes of returning rather than risk them in the hands of a less than sufficient force. They had been wise, as they were wiped out before returning home. All that remained was an obscure message sent ahead. It had taken Tsecha many decades to back track the path of the explorers. But he had done it. Now he and his people could recover these souls though lost, and return to his home.
But a nearby shadow disturbed his thoughts. He could just make out the eldar in the trees, and noted him more by the light of his mind then by his movements.
"You have news," asked Tsecha?
"We will have little time to excavate the stones. The Great Devourer is here. They have come to harvest this planet."
"We are too few to save this planet, and it matters not to our goals. But we must retrieve the soulstones. Hold this area. I will call for some aid."
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
The battle began quietly. A few Tyranids crept onto the field, trying to get a feel for the land. The many rangers in the area spotted them well ahead of time, and were able to direct the rest of the force in dispatching them. But the weapons fire drew some attention. Soon, more Tyranids arrived, and not of the small varieties. Pretty soon, large Tyranids were everywhere Tsecha looked.
Fortunately, the craftworld had sent reinforcements as well. War-walkers, Warp spiders, and one of the revered Wraithlords had joined their brethren on the field, and were soon followed by the Avatar of Khaine. The sight of him raised the spirits of all the Eldar, and they fought on, even in the face of such monstrosities.
The rangers were exemplary in their marksmanship, but they were not alone. All members of the force showed incredible accumen with weapons of all types. In the end, only one of the mostrosities came within range of the repository, and he was quickly dispatched by the Avatar, who would not stand to see any more souls lost.
Tsecha nodded when the shadows told him the soulstones had been recovered. He gave a mental signal for his force to collect their fallen comrades and depart for the ships. This world was lost, but much had been gained in it's death.
