Just as the topic says - how do you play the fire arc of a drop pod??
Is it like a hull mounted weapon and can only fire in a 90' arc, or do you play it as a turret and it can fire 360'?
This is bugging me, in that all it says on pg. 35 of Space Marine Codex is that the pod has a stormbolter....
People here claim that it does not say fixed or hull mounted , and that if they make a little turret thingy it should fire 360'
But doesn't that defeat the whole turret mounted weapon ability fo certain vehicles -leman, predator, etc. If I could model it anyway I want then why is there a specific rule for turrets??
I always thought that vehicle weapons fell into 3 categories- fixed/hull mounted, turrets, and sponsons. So a rhino, a basilisk or a wartrack could only fire into its front 90'arc, a tank w/turret could fire 360', and sponsons could fire 180'

If my memory reminds me right (which it may not), there is a fourth category, which is pintail mounted. I think that this is what the weapons on the drop pod fall under, giving it a 360' arc.

OK, I'm in an arguementative/devil's advocate mood today , so ....
pg. 25 Space Marine Codex, pintle-mounted storm bolter- "pintle mounted storm bolters are "fixed"(emphasis mine) to the outside of a vehicle .... Treated as additional weapon."..
Where does it say it can fire 360"?

Just use a rhino as a drop pod. Whos to say that your chapters drop pods don't look like rhinos. They have a storm bolter on top also. Whos to say that bolter doesn't rotate 360? Since GW didn't release a rule-set on what a drop pod has to look like its pretty much left up to interpretation reguardless of what forgeworld has released.

On the fact that GW (the BASTARDS) have not come up with a standard construct for drop pods I agree.... use whatever form works for you... BUT, they do have a set weapon system with rules in play. Nowhere does it say what the fire arc is on vehicles for their defensive weapons- ie. stormbolters. SO, do you play rhinos have a 360' arc for their stormbolters? (Am I being an anal prick for even asking this question?)

I believe a rhino has the front arc of 90 degrees.
My point was that the drop pod is up to interpretation on what it looks like so maybe the guys you game with are correct that its 360 arc. Who knows since its not defined as a turret, hull mounted etc.
I don't think you being anal in that you want to have a clearly defined rule on what makes a drop pod and its weaponry.

360 degrees...yeah, yeah, yeah, plastic drop pods are in the works, just like the Eldar codex, and the Orc Codex, and the Xenos Hunters ...
A wise old veteran once told me "Son, you need to look at this hobby as plastic and metal crack. You don't need it but once the addiction sets in you can't stop."
Sound familiar???
"It's only a game..."
