I will take a look at that when I get home Ron. Been a couple months since I really cared about reading a 40K rulebook...  As far as I can remember from any of the rules if you are an IC, no matter vehicle or not, it grants certain benefits. ie ( not being able to be shot at) Now if an IC is a MC then he loses that benefit, but it does not say that anywhere about vehicles. I can see where the correlation between an MC(level 3 ) and a vehicle(level 3) can be made, but it is not in any of the rule books as a rule. But we know GW has left some mighty big holes now don't we.... |

IC rules say nothing about Vehicles. It does say you can not target an IC if he is part of a squad.
If he is not part of a squad you can target him if he is the closet model.
I have reread the IC rules in the last week, but not the vehicle targeting rules.
I am assuming the rules say “you can target any vehicle on the board with a leadership test”. I will read that section tonight.
This is a Grey area, what rule overrides other. The only other models in game that would come close him is Vect and Dark Angels speeder special character. Vect is by himself and Dark angels are with a squad of other vehicles.
Where is Tom’s option?

The way I see it, since he is an a vehical, if guardians are in front of him, he can be targeted. Since he is an IC, if a squad of Vipers are in front of him he cannot be targeted because he is now blocked by people of his level.

Thats great, only problem here is that vipers are skimmers and DONT block LoS.
There are exceptions to this:
Dude, its similar to a Deamon Prince, a size 3 IC. You can shoot at him. (Him (your guy) being a Vehicle grants him size 3, nothing else really matters )
If your worried about him getting shot at, attach him to a squadren of size 3 vehicles or keep him out of LoS.
Its only a grey area when you rely on the Player to interpret the rules and not let the rules speak for themselves.

I know that. What I should have said, is if there is a squad of vipers closer to the attacker than the IC, then you cannot shoot him because there are things of his level closer to the attacker.
