In a tourney awhile back I played against a Templar Player. A question rose in my mind that I was not sure of, becuase I do not have the codex, and had never played the army until that point. I heard that they have to buy there vows now. So in a tournament situation would they be locked into one list that they have to use for all three games?
This guy had a list of what vows to play against what army. He told me that he changes it per army he plays within the tourney. This sounded a little off to me. Not wanting to make a stink about it I brought up that you can't change prefferred enemy to what ever army you play against in tourney, why should vows be allowed to? He said vows where different. Not really caring about the vows and wanting to actually play against them for the first time I said whatever and started the game.
What do you y'all think? (I still have not bought the codex I already have one marine 'dex)

No, under the old rules you chose at the beginning of the game which of the 4 vows you would like.
Under the new editon of the rules you buy A SINGLE vow as part of the equipment for the Emperors Champion. You pay a set point cost (each vow is different) for each vow and you are only allowed to choose ONE.
So he's cheating his ass off if he thinks he can change vows mid tourney. He chooses his vow, he pays the points and writes it on his army list. Any changes on that would be as cheatery as changing what heavy weapons you were equiping squads with based on what opponent you were up against.
(Hmm... round 2 is against guard, better take out those rockets and put in more big shoota's)

Yep cheating his ass off, well said Sir Norton.
I'll tell you what, I would let him do it if I could change my libriarian's pychic powers each round. What he is doing is no different then that. I wouldn't mind swapping out heavy weapons either, maybe he might let me do that too, hell maybe I could even switch armies after he buys his vow, that sounds just as fair!

SAINT NORTON HAS IT RIGHT, THE ONLY THING I CAN ADD IS: HIS ARMY LIST SHOULD HAVE EXPOSED HIS ILLEGAL ACTIVITY IN SOMEWAY BY SELECTION, POINTS COST OR RULES DESCRIPTION.
HAVE A NICE DAY, CIAO!

I was fairly certain he was doing something wrong when he said that he can pick. It's a hard line to cross when in a tournament to call them out on it. He was my third and final opponent and the winner got overall. I didn't want to call him out and have him slam me on sports and comp. I didn't think what vow he picked was going to help him much anyways. He was playing a vehicle heavy templar vs my shooty necrons.
