I'm not getting what to come up with for Tyranid army for a Comp. score. When you say did you take just the good stuff. I say it's all good other than Warrior & Lictors being a bit pricey. When your looking for min.& max. squads am I penalized both ways if there Genestealers. And no way I'm I taking 32 of any kind of gaunts, remember lictors, Zoanthropes & rippers are non-scoring units. The only fast attacks I have are three Raveners, the others are my son's,so I won't use them. If I use mines people will just get pissed, so won't do that either. I don't see a problem with 5 Carnifexs either when 4 out of 5 are different and 3 are weak elite choices. Chris didn't like it,Jay thought it was OK, I don't know what to do? Which brings me to the topic! In A Big Ones Army, if I fill all 3 spot of Heavy, 3 Spots of Elites & both H.Q.'s what do I take for regular Troop choices and Fast Attack Squads? And what size squads should they be: Min., Max., Average? What shouldn't I use? I have made 15 army lists so far none are "BIG ONES", I just want to a good comp. Score with the models I have! This is my only army with complete base of gravel and I haven't played NIDS since the last RIT tourney, so here we go! CIAO!

What they are looking for is make an army that would be fun to play but also fun for your opponent to play against. That will garuntee you a high sports and comp score.
Things that will get you a low score is taking 4-6 carnifexs with max guns and armor and wounds and regen. Min gene stealers or rippers and 2 tyrants (just an example) On the flip side taking too many or all Assualt cannons in a marine army could also (and pretty sure it is) be seen as bad comp.
But hey, ultimatly you take what you want to. but remember It will only reflect on your comp/sports scores.
Simple questions to ask yourself...Would you want to play against your own army? Is it too burly? Did you take only the best of the list? Did you do something to defeat the main weakness of your army or did you play along with its weakness? Is it in the spirit of the game? Does the list make sense as a Typical army for your codex? Did you repeat the same unit over multiple times? (ie carnifex, carnifex, carnifex, carnifex, Tyrant, Tyrant, Genestealers, Genestealers)
Take it for what its worth...or not.

The guy I played in Toronto had a fair bi ones army I thought. That was in 1700pts, so you have another 150 to work with for this tourney. I have his army list if you want to see specifics.
2 Tyrants - One CC and 1 Shooty 3 Heavy Fexes - Shooty 3 Elite fexes - hth 1 unit of genestealers 1 unit of gaunts
Overall I thought it was much more fun to play than the all shooty one I played at RIT last time.

basically ask yourself if a guard army with only 3-6 laz cannons and missle launchers will enjoy playing you at all
if no then your army is bad

Thanks for responding all, this is what I'm thinking: 1) Hive Tyrant-winged 2) Hive Tyrant with Guards 3) 3 Carnies as Elites,2 twin-linked devourers & 1 with scything talons. 4) 2 Carnies as Heavy Support, 1 shooty the other half & half 5) 3 Zoanthropes 6)Troops squad 1: 8 Gene-Stealers 7) 3 Troop squads of Spine-rippers 3 in each 8) 1 troop squad of 10 Devourer Gaunts 9) 3 Fast Attack Squads, all with just 1 Ravener
I put a bit of everything in this, please comment, nothing here is hard to kill, only Zoanthropes have 2+saves.
My "Big Ones Army" is easier to beat than all my other concepts.

I don't have any problem with the "Big Ones" army you put forward here, You still have several small units that can easily be killed, and you havent really jacked up any of the 'Fexes.
I think you really start to run into problems when you go all out in one area or another, Such as 6 fexes that all shoot all the time, plus 2 tyrants that do the same, (like the army at RIT) or the army of all super tough to kill fexe's and tyrants, T7, extra wounds, regen, 2+ sv. etc.
I don't think i'd have any complaints about fighting your army.

Thanks Mike & Jay, I'll put some lists together for tomorrow night at Boldo's and get some more opinions. I don't want to loose a lot of Comp. points, I'll take my chances at the tables. ALL COMMENTS WELCOME, CIAO!
