Well, from my game with Courtney at Gaggcon, I learned one lesson well. I need some counter assault. I've thought of a couple ideas and I'm wondering what people think of them. 1st: giving the apothecaries in my 3 tactical squads powerfists. These squads rarely lose more than half their models to shooting, so there would be a couple bodies to soak up attacks so the powerfist has a chance to swing. 2nd: Bike squad. Maybe 3 or 4 bikes with meltas or flamers and a vet sgt with a fist or power weapon. Fast enough to counter assault effectively, with some weapons to thin out the enemy if they need to make the initial attack. Also useful for taking objectives. 3rd: Scout bikes: never used them, never seen anyone use them. Cheaper then regular bikes, still have the option of a vet with a fist, still usefull for taking objectives. I know Chris would like this one, because it goes along with his "use things noone ever does" theory ;D . That's all I got for now. If anyone else has any ideas, you all pretty much know my army, so fire away.

Assault squads work well for Counter-assault. Probably the best counter-assault unit in the codex. Bikes are not anywhere close to efficient in a loyalist army.
The apothocaries with power fists might be a good idea since you're already paying alot of the upgrade costs.

yea I like the apothecaries with powerfists. Since i believe you are giving them power weapons.
I do like the sound of scout bikes. you could hide them intill the last second and run them out were you need them.

Currently he ups them to Vets and then to Apoths but never gives them any wargear past that.
So another 10-15 pts for pwr. weapon or fist sounds good.

How about putting a techmarine in with that squad with the plasma cannon and plasma gun. With a harness and combat shield he is durable and can kick some butt. Plus between him and a apothecary no one in that squad would ever die from overheating. I would not have wanted to send a squad into assault them with him in there waiting for me.
You could keep him parked next to the pred too for repairs.
Don't see allot of techmarines out there also, and it's probably one of the coolest marine models.
