OK genius, why don't you come up with a list for both these armies that won't suck ass then? After all you know so much more about fantasy then mere mortals like me ever could hope to know.
BTW, you are missing the whole point of my rant. What I was trying to understand is why the restrictions? I guess maybe that is the way fantasy has to be played, since just playing a list that is legal is not good enough, in order to have fun we have to throw up all these parameters around it. Hell I've seen shorter tax forms than the comp lists we use. Tell me this, what is wrong with playing legal list period? Is there no sort of balance or gentleman's agreement in fantasy to play fair list. On the 40K side, we seem to have far less problems determining comp, and usually the stipulations for a tournament are point cost, not point cost, and bring this, don't bring this, etc.
If the character thing is so fair, please explain why I have only one to choose from while other armies have several choices? Yeah, I'm waiting...
Oh and another thing, if I only get one character to "choose" from, why not just make my list for me? What's next, do I have to have my models preapproved to play, we all know how well that works...

Doug, I agree with you on most points, so don't jump on me. I Just want to point out that the gernarl rule sates you cannot have a character of higher leadership than your general. It says nothing about other units. Brian can field all the Black orcs he wants, and only have a goblin general. Not exactly Fluffy, but then again, what is these days. Bland is the rule. If the recent coedexes and rumors are any indication, even GW is going to vanilla everything.

Doug - instead of ranting and crying, read the thread about the tournament tomorrow. Boldo said he isnt using the same comp.
Boldo wants to use these characters for these two events. Period. His original idea was that it be fun and different as opposed to building the tightest list you can. If this doesnt appeal to you, by all means sit them out and wait for the next one.
If you want a demonstration as to why most fantasy tournaments have comp, play boldo in a game with thorek & the anvil. Or I'll bring a High elf dragon all cav list and play ya. Or a HE seer council. Trust me,it'll take exactly one game to make you a fan of comp.
