Do gnoblars really count as a shooting unit? They are the only pratical way to add ranks. Besides to me that rule seems to be to avoid the HE/DE version of the gunline not to discourage from taking a unt that takes a random pea-shoter.
Is the Scraplauncher an artillery? a unit that shoots at str3? Reminder scrappies are a chariot after all and acording to the rules chariots don't count as a shooting unit.
So just a couple questions with a little whining added because how can you do comp this way without someone whining? Feel free to through dice at me when you see me!

Yup - gnoblars shoot. Sharp stuff.
Scraplauncher - you missed that part about "...unless they qualify as artillery". Counts as a chariot AND counts as artillery.
Dont get me wrong - I've argued ogres to Boldo and pointed out how poorly they fit into the comp list. Square peg (ogre kingdoms book) in a round hole (blanket comp). I very well may bring them, too if I can bother to get the extra stuff I need done to make 2500pts.
By bringing ogres, you will probably fall right in the middle of the comp point rubric - like most people's lists. Problem is those other lists can still be much tougher than a mid-point ogre list.
I'd suggest not to lose sleep over it. The points arent worth that much (maybe a tie game's worth between lists?). Its pretty much impossible to to get a perfect score, and no one else will have a perfect score either.

Thanks for advocating for the big guys.
Now before I go further I want to clarify that I am not truly upset about the comp situation and I am certainly not loosing sleep over it. Really I am just looking for a good time and to get some good games against good people. I guess I am just hoping to help with future comp lists?
I know comp's not worth much but the purpose of comp in this tourney is to pair rougly equal armies and let the generals decide who's better. As you pointed out an Ogre general starts with an up hill battle. Not the end of the world but giving up points before a tourney begins and then most likely being matched against an army that is "harder" makes it likely that round one and two battle scores won't be what they would be giving all other varialbes being equal.

Really I am just looking for a good time and to get some good games against good people. This is good Yup, best plan for your first big tournament. As far as hoping to help future comp lists - all you have to do is look at old treads on this board and just smile. Boldo's the only one who still thinks a blanket checklist is viable; most experienced tourney players much prefer judged comp. But - his tourney, his rules. ;D On a side note, there's more than one way to skin a cat. I tend to do quite well with "perceivedly weak" lists, good painting, and plain ol' not being an a-hole.

True. I totally agree that he is taking the time and effort to run the tourney and he should do it as he sees fit. Actually I think applied to most armies its actually fairly fair. I have played many armies over many years and most of my lists would have scored very appropriately on this scale. OK just doesn't fit in that "normal" army structure and IMO (which means squat untill I run my own tourney) the avg OK list is about 3-4 points off on this particular comp scale. Well I will have 2 out of 3 going for me and you know what I think about my list so I will let you guys be the judge of the other two. Honestly I don't want to come off as saying " it's the worst thing in the world". Everyone has a choice to play or not. I plan on playing and hopefully people will enjoy their games against me and vice versa.

After this tournament I will start a new comp thread with a system similiar to Jason's with a general list and army specific sections but for now i have other things to do. I hope then everyone will be as helpful with ideas as my tournaments will have comp of one form or another and it will not be judged comp for a number of reasons.

I couldn't ask for more than that.
I look forward to meeting everyone and I am sure it will be a good time.

Sorry to birng this old thread up again but I am answering my own question about the gnoblars.
Goblars DO NOT count as applying to rule 9 and 10 because they don't shoot at str 4 or 3. They weigh in at a mighty str 2! and there's nothing in the rules about that!
