I just want my own shot at being an lovable guy and earning the reputation. I am sure I can do as good a job as everyone else.... ;D ;D ;D But instead the lovable guy label is placed me for free.... Tearing apart our teamates is not good. If I did so I apologize. The intent of my previous posts were to show what the perception is by others. I am no better than anyone else. As I said I have my d1ckhead moments. Christ I almost through spinner through the window.... In a perfect world everyone would know the rules and do every action perfectly, but its not. We need to accept peoples faults and get on with the fun part fo the game.

Being nice, and lenient against a new player is one thing...
But in a tourney, everyone should be adhereing to the rules. Even in the pick up games, if you are playing with someone who knows the game and has the ability to assemble a competent list, everyone should be enforcing the rules and not letting people slide. Not to be a rules nazi, but to help learn the game better and to make everyone better players. That's one of the main goals a of a gaming club - right?
I think if we all were more willing to enforce even the little stuff, there would be less questions about the rules, games would be faster and less arguments would hold up tourneys. The biggest problem I see is that people hold up games becuase they played one game and someone let them slide on something so now they are uncertain what the actual rule is and are trying to slide by again - not by intentionally cheating, but becuase the fact that someone let them get away with it before created a certain amoutn of fuzzines about the rules!
I enjoying playing opponents who know the rules and don't need to stop every ten minutes to look something up. I appreciate teh chance to learn the rules better and would arther they point out when I am doing something illegal. I don't take it personally or feel like they are calling me a cheater. The rules are what they are, and in all honesty I think it's a more enjoyable game when they are adhered to as closely as possible.
The only time I have an issue is when people stretch or bend the rules and they are obviously doing so to gain an advantage. I think that is what most people perceive Tom is doing when he points out rules clarifications. Those of us who play him a lot know that isn't the case.

Thank you Tom, I have occassionally wondered where the perceived nice guy thing came from. Courtney and Hendricks, on the other hand, are genuinely nice guys, so I doubt they owe you anything.
Furthermore, I want to add that I never had any problems with Tom during a game that couldn't be resolved by intellectual (i.e. not angry) discussion. People shouldn't be hatin' just cause Tommy actually reads the rules and gets excited about a new codex.

Personally, I'm always surprised when Tommy doesn't know a rule. He's a frickin walking encyclopedia of rules. I bet with a little work he could even tell us exactly how to play a Rogue trader game....or not.
Tommy's fine as long as you remember that he is probably right, but is willing to check it if you ask. The advatage is that he usually knows exactly where to look which speeds things up considerably.

Like I said earlier, I love Tommy, and his queer pink belt too. I enjoy playing him every chance I have had since he is a very good tactician and he forces me to remember to do everything. I hope I did not attack him, that was never my intent. All I was saying was that I do understand how being a rules lawyer can irritate people. Kinda like the cop who gives you a ticket in a 35mph zone for doing 36mph, after all you were over the speed limit right?
Another thought, why are we worrying about this? At most every tournament we are at, WE are the tournament, and since we all like everyone of us what is the problem?

I think we are worrying about it BECAUSE we ARE the tournament most of the time. If it's our rep that is causing this, then we need to fix the rep. Not sure how though. I like us the way we are. But if the rep keeps people away, then we need to deal with it to get more people to come so we can have some variety from time to time.
Which brings up a thought. I know how you guys responded to the Coyote's Den Tourney, but does anyone know their response to Da Boyz attending? It might be interesting to see what they thought.

"DABOYZ" WERE A CLASS ACT ALL THE WAY AT THE COYOTE'S DEN FIRST OUTING, INCLUDING TOMMY.
DRAGON, ALWAYS SPEAKS THE TRUTH!
ALL 11 POINTS I MADE EARLIER WERE IN FULL FORCE, EXCEPT "Y'ALL DIDN'T HAVE YOUR TEE-SHIRTS ON" THAT ONLY COUNTS AS A 1/4.
I'M SORRY I CAN'T MAKE IT THIS WEEKEND.
I'LL SEE SOME OF YOU NEXT THURSDAY NIGHT.
YES, THAT MEANS I'LL TAKE A CHALLENGE!

Hmmm,
Well I tend to agree with tom on the fact that if you allow your oponent to cheat you in the first round he will assume its ok to do it in the second round. I dont mean to pick anyone out but Orville this happened when we went to Coyotes den. YOu played that guy with 2 librarians and a death company chaplian (which is illeagal) He was doing Illegal moves, and wasnt even doing his Psykic power right. After the game I asked why you didnt correct him and you just shrugged.
Then low and behold I had the pleasure to play him the second round. I mentioned that his Librairian was an illegal choice and he just mumbled something and placed it anyways. I shook my head and smiled, ok on librarian wont make a diffrence here but at least I mentioned it to him. Then he started right off the bat moving 8 inches here, 14 inches here. I asked him how far do your guys move? He replied 6 and 12 inches respectively. I said ah ok, just checking, you think thats 6 or 12 inches. Then I measured from his table edge to where he was and it was well over 18 inches. (12" deployment + 6" move = 18" out.) Funny how math works that way. Of course the jump packs were well passed thier movement as well. I had him correct the ranges. Few times I had to tell him that couldnt Mathmatically be able to charge me and I pointed it out to him.
When does it become a point where you just let things slide and it totally wrecks you? I would have been crushed fighitng that guy on his own "cheating" terms (whether he ment it or not) Blood Angels are not one of those armies you let get away with an 19-20 inch charge because that Assualt squad (no less the Death Company) will just fricken wreck you! I was alred figintg an up hill battle playing ork for crips sake why make it harder?
Heres the thing...How many times do you let "The Rules" slide to save a sportsmanship score? Does that mean next time I play courtney (just picked him) in a GT, he will let me cheat my ass off to totally crush him so I can give him a good sports score. Sure dont get dinning for sports from me and I just got 20 points for cruching you (because I cheated and you let me)
God I will go play f*cking Yugi-oh with c4 if the rules are just going to be ignored. Not knowing the rules is one thing, but dont be pissed when someone that knows the rules corrects you and you happen to be wrong! And your a Titan among MEN if you ding his sports score for it. If he is an ass while telling you then fine but dont do it just because you are embaressed your wrong. Which is were I think people see tom doing. Being obnoxious when he tells them the rules.
Im guilty of getting snippy with people who like to get snippy with me first. Generally I will mention the rules in a nuetral way not being rude or obnoxious and point out whats wrong. Usually then it means looking the rule up. I dont mind look up rules during a tournament so long as it means we are playing by the rules. I dont know all the rules out there but I know my fair share. Why? Because Ive played with or against Tom ALOT. I see were he is coming from when he means to correct people, sometimes it not in the right way, sometimes it in a humorus way (maybe not to the person thats wrong, but to me it is funny), Hell I even get pissed at tom for bring up something I missed (only because I didnt bring it up first mostly though) Tom and I have been known to go back and forth on rules debates, aslo we have been know to ask the other what is thier take on the rules. Tom plays by the rules, never cheated me or anyone as far as I know, his tactics are dubious at worst (due to interpretations of obscure rules) but never been known to openly cheat anyone.
If someone is going to judge us by one person in the group then I say forget them. Why would you want to play with stero typing, ingronant people. I still can get over something they said. It was something like: " And any one(meaning us Da Boyz) that looks to this guy (meaning tom) for rules question is also a bunch of Titans among MEN" Then they go on to mention how much they hate rochester due to Tom really, I couldnt see any basis for thier hate other than Tom.

RON’S (aka IRON WARRIOR) RESPONSE IS EXACTLY WHAT I EXPECTED, IDENTIFIES THE PROBLEM AND CAME TO THE AID OF HIS TEAM MATE, POINTS THE STANDARD OF PLAY AND TRADITION OF THE GROUP. “BINGO” WHY DO YOU THINK I PLAY AT BALDO’S? ANSWER: TO PLAY “DABOYZ” WHY DO I WANT TO PLAY “DABOYZ” ANSWER: STRICT ENFORCEMENT OF THE RULES & BEST PLAYERS AROUND. LOOK WERE I CAME FROM: “SPINNER UNIVERSITY OF THE FINGER LAKES” PLAYING: CHRIS, SHAUN, RON and OTHERS ON THURSDAY NITES AT BALDO’S IS THE BEST DEAL IN TOWN. THESE GUYS NEED NEW PLAYERS TO GO AGAINST, AND I NEED TO PLAY THEM TO GET BETTER. ;D I’VE ONLY PLAYED TOMMY ONCE, HE UNDER ESTIMATED ME AND I SHOT THE CRAP OUT OF HIM. YES HE CORRECTED ME MULTIPLE TIMES, SO WHAT, IF I’M WRONG, I’M WRONG, MOVE ON. “YES YOU GET A REMATCH TOMMY” DRAGON PLAY’S EVEYBODY! ;D I EXPECT “DABOYZ” TO RAISE THE LEVEL OF PLAY AT THE COYOTE’S DEN WITHIN REASON, IT’S TIME TO BRANCH OUT. “DABOYZ” CAN ONLY PLAY “DABOYZ” SO MANY TIMES. I HAVE SOME IDEAS, BUT I’LL SAVE THEM FOR DIFFERENT THREAD. OH, ONE MISTAKE I MADE, “PINK IS NOT A COLOR” IT’S A REFLECTION. FLAP FLAP FLAP AWAY!
