heh, ya know, its really crappy that they think that about us. But you cant persuade people that have biased opinions and want to judge a group on one individuals performance. I think we have some great people here, Chris, Jay, Doug. Nice people to play against, never had a bad game against them and always had fun. Well there was that one time playing Chris...hehehe!
Anyways, Tom is Tom, we know how he acts and we have come to accept it. Once in a great while he is fun to play against. The other times you get into rules debates with him and he can sometimes get obnoxious. Thats Tom to us. They dont know who is.
The real kicker is because we assosiate with tom and ask him for rules questions they condem us as "Titans among MEN" , i believe was thier words. And they dont want to leave thier sand box to come up here because someone might play Tom and not have a fun time. I seem to not have a fun time at least once every where I go. This is not going to prevent me from going to that place. If that happened I would never leave home! lol. WOuld not go to baltimore, Coyotes den, Millenium games, Boldos, Altered States, Syracuse GW store, Buffalo GW store, Cons and conventions in Buffalo Rochester and Syracuse areas, Canada and Suny PA. Theres always some lovable guy out there to ruin you day, thats just a matter of fact. Get over it and move on.
If they want to be ass hats about it and make an excuse out of it then fine let them do that. I could go down there a pick out one of thiers that cheated me and turn it into a huge deal and turn it into an excuse not to show up at syracuse anymore too. But Im not that type of person. I realize that they have there @ss hats too. In fact one of them owes me a box of guardians that we made a bet on at the GW store in front of the whole tournament. (Are you reading this? Remember that bet? I do. ;D) Ok that wasnt fair of me to say that, the guy seemed nice enough to me and I never had the pleasure to play Mr. Pierson (sp?) But im sure they have thier own down there.
I dont see why this blew up into a huge issure over a game. If I didnt know any better I would say they are acting like women and are making this into a bigger deal than it really is.

I have only played for about 4 years now, but I have learned to like everyone in our group, even Ron!!!!! ;D ;D Now I can tell you if I played certain people only once and a while I would think they were lovable guys. Thats just how it is and how their personality comes across. Myself included in certain games, I can be a d1ck. I just really don't like being lumped into a group and told I won't play with you because your friends can be an a$$. I personally have never even played against any of the guys in Syracuse.
I think Ron posted somewhere about what being part of a group means. You represent our group every time we go somewhere and should act respectful and honest. And that might mean sometimes letting the guy move 7" or letting small 5hit go. In the grand scheme of our gaming community it will mean more to not piss off everyone to gain that inch back.

Just let the small nuts go ok first that means i let the guy move 7 inches instead of 6
So what if they have 5 heavy supports in their black legion army
Got an extra HQ character?--- no problem!!!
it ends some place after his 1500 point army was actually 2500 pts
i could point out to much "lettin the small (and who determines small?) nuts go just makes some of us look bad because the others didnt speak up WHEN THEY SHOULD HAVE!!
ONE or TWO of us would not look bas if others would Speak up when they should!!!!
But i guess it could just be me! (Wolf lord you started this and never voted???)

DABOYZ “DRAGONS TAKE” 1 YOUR REPUTATION IS NOT TOTALLY ESTABLISHED YET. 2) IF YOU’RE GOING TO SHOW UP AS A GROUP, ACT THE PART. 3) WHEN YOU SHOW UP IN THOSE TEE-SHIRTS, IT’S TO ESTABLISH YOUR GROUP NOT TO INTIMIDATE. 4) THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS: YOUR GROUP OBJECTIVE AND A CODE OF ETHICS THAT GO’S WITH IT. 5) NO ONE PLAYS TO LOOSE, AND YOU ALREADY HAVE MORE PLAYING EXPERIENCE THAN 95% OF THE COUNTRY, IF NOT MORE. 6) WHEN YOU’RE A GOOD ENOUGH PLAYER, ALMOST ANYTHING CAN BE OVER COME. 7) REMBER WHY YOU’RE PLAYING, IF IT’S NOT TO HAVE FUN, THEN PICK A DIRRERENT HOBBY. 8) LAW DEGEES DON’T COME FROM WARHAMMER GAMES, IF YOU WANT TO PRACTICE LAW, GO BACK TO SCHOOL. 9) DON’T PUT YOUR TEAM MATES IN UNCOMFORTABLE POSITIONS, (DON”T SAY IT). 10) ENCOURGE YOUR OPPENTENT AS YOU SLOTTER HIM, SO HE’LL WANT TO PLAY YOU AGAIN, TEACH HIM SOMETHING TO HELP MAKE HIM A BETTER PLAYER, (THEN OF COURSE SLOTTER HIM AGAIN, BUT SMILE). 11) ESTABLISH “DABOYZ” PRIORITIES, THAT’S YOUR BOND. . GOOD EXAMPLE: FIRST MEETING AT THE COYOTES DEN, I DIDN’T PLAY ARMOURED COMPANY TO AVOID AN INCIDENT. I ALSO ASK ANOTHER GUARD PLAYER TO DO THE SAME. BAD EXAMPLE: PLAYING A CODEX BEFORE ITS OFFICIAL RELEASE, (I POINT NO FINGERS) JUST AN EXAMPLE. “DRAGON STANDS ALONE” ½ PUFF, ½ SNORT, GONE!

Different people play different ways and let more things go that others.
Example: I forget to smoke my rhino in the movement phase.
Person A(Norton) says who cares go ahead and do it in the assault phase. I think Mike is one of the best people at letting things go.
Person B(Tommy) says "No way that has to happen in the movement phase" I think Tom makes sure everything is done properly.(by the letter of the law he is correct)
Now after this happens on about 6 rules during the game everyone thinks Norton is great to play against and Tom is the biggest lovable guy on the planet.
There is a limit and I have seen it reached by everyone. After the 10th time the guy can't figure out what 6" is I would probably say something. Or the guy is putting smoke on his rhino in my shooting phase. Those things I might bring up.

so what you are saying mike (in somewhat blunt/harsh terms to help my point)
The rhino includes a squad of 4 space wolves wolf guard with wolf lord, wolf priest, rune priest, and 3 iron priests. Next round they will be able to assault out of the rhino into 6 diffrent squads
example norton lets player Cheat and he is a hero
example tom actually played by the rules we all have and is villified.
why is Tom viewed bad because he followed the rules?? no its cause example norton Didnt when he should have.
We all like to say this isnt to big a deal. But when Guard player Kyle up and says after assaults are done "Oops i forgot to shoot my 3 leman rus battle cannons at your Rhino of Doom Mr West.
i bet mr West's reaction is "Yup you forgot! and these are equal mistakes.
In other words in poker terms my cards are KKKQ6 Thats four of a kind right because a queen is close enough and the rules are not everything?

I would not let Kyle shoot. other actions have been taken with that unit and too bad.
Whereas the smoking rhino example it did nothing else in its turn. Sat there and idled its engines. Who cares if you have smoke on now or later. It effects absolutely nothing in the game. 0, zilch, doesn't matter.
Tom - No one doubts you are correct in 99% of your rules calls, but sometimes things need to be let go. No ones perfect and in the spirit of having fun being right is not always the answer.

. Except critically defend that squad from being entangled when the vehicle blew up exposing it to more fire from a army that has no hope of beating them in HTH
The Leman Russes in the example also DID nothing else that turn, why penalise them?
Better example
space wolf player smokes all rhinos but one he has a rune priest next to it
in the shooting phase he casts storm caller on a nearby squad instead of the rhino
and then says "i forgot to smoke the rhino"
Did the space wolf player forget? Or did he change his mind? Is he cheating or a honest mistake?
If you make a space wolf player play by the actual rules to avoid this issue than you make EVERYBODY play by the rules.

I have to agree with tom (again - jeesh, it's becoming a trend).
I have the unfortunate habit of forgetting the psychic phase. generally, other players will forgive me the first time I forget to roll for 'Fortune'. They really shouldn't. If more people were to say 'Dude, it;s too late. You already started the movement phase. Better luck next turn." I would probably learn to correct that habit a lot faster. And the kicker is, I would not knock a person's sportsman score if they didn;t let me get away with it, just so long as they weren't jerks about it.
Da Boyz have always been a diverse group of unique players. I have never judges another gaming club just on the actions of one of it's members. This whole issue is very much like a Junior High dance and needs to stop.

OK, here is the definitive take on this subject, listen up... It all comes down to this, when we go to a tourney, we usually show up in a group and our reputation proceeds us. "Back in the day" before I played Shain, Courtney, Jay, Hobin, etc showed up and kick the crap out of people. To a large extent this happens still and no one likes to lose. While I understand rules are rules, and Tommy is well within his right to insist that they be followed, losing and having the rules shoved up someone's @ss leaves a bitter taste in their mouth. From then on "DaBoyz" are hard @sses and no fun to play against. When we as a group show up with cheesy tooled out lists and thrash newbies, it is also like kicking a puppy. When we measure with the "rubber ruler", pull out obscure interpretations it makes an impression on others that is less then favorable. I play with all you @ssholes week in, week out, and you all are a great group of guys, every single one of you. We all have our flaws, that is what makes us human too, but sometimes it is these flaws that others remember most when they meet us for the first time. Maybe we should draft a code of conduct that we should agree to and abide by when at tourneys "representing". This is not to say that anyone here has done anything wrong, but maybe we could do the things we do better than we have done in the past. Pretty much what it all boils down to is if in doubt don't do it. Hedrick's gave me advice once about sportmanship. He told me that if someone is trying to cheat him, he will let them cheat and still beat their @ss, that way he gets good soft scores too. I guess that's some advice I have taken to heart, while I won't let it all slide, I pick my battles too. We are all good enough players that we don't need to squeeze out a victory using any means necessary, especially ones that leave a bad impression of "DaBoyz" in others mind. All this being said, I am probably one of the pettiest people around. That @sshole that cheated my son at the Den is getting fisted this weekend for sure but otherwise I will try to "represent". Remember WWJDFAKB (What Would Jesus Do For A Klond**e Bar?) F--ing Tommy, now I can't say D1KE? NAZI!!!!!

If everyone else would learn the rules and play by them then we wouldn't have a problem now, would we?

I do think it is unfortunate, but understandable how people form opinions of this group. I have to admit that there are people in this group I would be happy to not play against too often. I also am prone to letting things go...the first round. That's the thing... in the first round things can be attributed to scattered brains and such. After that, if your brain isn't working at full speed, your loss. This might be part of the reason I don't have the best winning record around, but that's ok by me. As has been mentioned, we are in this game to have fun. Being a little nice means that your opponent is more likely to enjoy playing you, and it's easier to enjoy a game if both players are having fun. Perhaps the biggest thing that will bring me down is a player who is grumpy. Most of you have played me at some point or another. I'm usually smiling in a game...win or lose. Jay and Orville can attest to the fact that I am smiling even when being wiped off the board. It's a game. I'm better than I used to be, and that's good enough for me.
I don't think Tommy's rules are really the problem. I think it's people trying to make the rules do what they want, and Tommy catches them more often than the rest of us. The trick I think Tommy needs to pick up somehow is how to catch them at it without making it a big deal. Not sure he can though since it s often them who make it a big deal.
By the way Tommy, I don't think it's just you they don't like. It takes special people to enjoy hanging with this group on a limited basis. Many of us are abbrasive if only seen once in a while. It takes a while to get used to it, and the guys in Syracuse just don't seem to want to make the effort.
