is there any advice on putting these li'l bastards together? I bought some Testor's plastic glue and it works like a charm but the super glue for the metal necromancers and the like is going to be brutal. Nope - you are using the right glues. Testors plastic glue - not too thick though, the stuff melts especially the fragile shoulder sockets on the skellies. Dont glue on the shields til after you have painted the models! Its much easier to do them separately. Super glue gel is usually better for the metal models as the thickness tends to hold the parts together until they dry. An alternative some guys use is regular old runny stuff, then squirt with an accelerator (Zip-Kicker?).

Thanks, johnboo... I'll look for the super glue gel.
I stopped by Boldo's this afternoon and found out he'll have a book Friday. Guess I'll have to wait a wee bit more before doing any serious planning for dominating the local circuit.
But once I get my hands on it you all had better watch out, blah!

Hahah, learn to love superglue, you're going to end up investing in many bottles over the years to come. The testors is nice for assembly, but personally I stay away from the super-glue gels, they don't have the strength i like. Zip kicker is fine for "just needs to hold right now" or big surfaces.
Of course i pin the snot out of most things, so normal superglue + pins = hold. I don't ever want to have to glue something twice if doing it right only takes a few seconds more.
On a side note, if you paint the shields first you need to glue them on with some flavor of superglue, the testors won't stick to painted surfaces. Hence needing superglue to glue broken models too.

Do any of you guys use clamps to keep things together while the glue is setting?
That's a nice tip regarding the shields, thanks. It'll save on some frustration further down the road I'm sure. Maybe I'll glue them on first and then paint them.

I don't think i know anyone that uses clamps for anything. Really just holding ti for 10-20 secs is usually enough, If you get really frustrated a spritz of zip-kicker is more then enough to make it dry right now.
No no no no, never paint with shields on, it's infuriating and you'll wish you had never done it. Besides ppl have no problem seeing uints on the field w/o shields because you are in the process of painting them.

So I'm thinking that there is some divine conspiracy to keep me from playing these vaunted vampire counts...
Boldo told me the book would be in on Friday - it wasn't. Nor was it available Saturday. That's cool, I can wait.
My wife and I visited my brand new nephew in Buffalo yesterday. we drove right by a hobby shop that advertised Warhammer. I thought I would peruse the stock and see if they had a VC army book. Nope.
C'mon! Seriously?

It figures - any time you really want something Boldo ordered for you his distributors find a way to hose him!
Well, they are a popular army in WHFB and its not unfathomable that they are sold out. One other reason is they are due for a new book relatively soon. Store owners may not stock as many of the book as they normally would - nothing sells worse than a old version of an army book! The only real value it has is for fluff, stories, and how things "used to be".

I didn't think they were that popular - I haven't seen anyone use them in any of the local events I've watched.
Also, the place in Buffalo said that WFB was not as popular as WH40K so they kept their stock low.
I'll call Boldo today to see if he's gotten yet.

Alright, so Boldo finally got the army book in. I got my hands on it and have been reading it a little bit at a time. Some real great background stuff and some real good ideas and hints for painting.
Now I've got to decide which bloodline to go with. Johnboo already put in his two cents regarding the Striogi bloodline. Are there any others who care to share their opinion?
Also, is it acceptable to have one core army but have several champions and generals from various bloodlines to play different battles? I realize that I would keep the same army throughout a tournament but instead of buying regiment upon regiment of skeletons just spend any new money upon champions and generals.

Yes, thats what all players do. Its very rare to have specifically modeled/converted stuff (at least a whole army's worth) for each flavor of general or theme.

As far as bloodlines - the best advice is play what you like! They are all cool in their own way.

Well all other things being what they are, the bloodlines each do different things and have different powers. Personally, i'd pick by what models you think you'd like to paint. Cuz if the models suck, you'll never paint them...
I like the nechrachs (sp?) and the lamians, they have so-so rules and really interesting models.
At the end of the day, after wtvr bloodline you give them, it's still a vampire, and it will still kill most things in the game. People fear vampire counts/lords with good reason!

Right now I think I'm going to focus on Blood Dragons and then move to the Necrarchs. I like the fluff and the look of these mini's. Plus I could eventually have a kick-a$$ general on a huge winged monstrosity.
Now I've got a timeline at least to try and have an army assembled and maybe painted by the Nemesis Crown event at Boldo's.

Blood Dragons are cool. Probably the line I'd do if I did VC. As overdone as the "undead Brettonian Mousillon Army" is, It is one very cool story & theme.

Maybe it's because I'm the "new guy" but I'm not interested in trying to make my army look like the ones in the book. Sure, I want my zombies and skeletons to look creepy. But I'd like to make my own characters and make my own battalions and story. I've got a pretty interesting background and theme brewing but it doesn't necessarily match up with the armies presented in the book.
