I talked to the Geneseo folks today and they want to run a 40k and fantasy tournaments at their convention. Other than 40k on Sunday what would people want for a convention tournament on February 3-5.

How about a Madden PS2 tourney, maybe even Tecmobowl? I think Matt and I can whoop Steve and the Rhine Fire!

- The 40k tourney should be 3500 pts
- There should be free krispy kreems at the 40k tourney
- price of admition back if the only people playing are all just daboyz

I like the idea of a big points tourn for 40 k, but how about a little smaller than 3500. How about 2500 or 3000? Otherwise, it is really hard to stay within one force org.

I request hot chicks in cat ears and chainmail bikini's to roll my dice and bend over the table and movie my models for me as I am both sexist and lazy.

3000 or 2500pts would be good, outside of you Tommy, how many people actually have a 3500pt painted force. Can you do 40% troops in 3500pts, bet not... As for the feline women in chainmail, shouldn't that be "standard issue" at any tourney?

Otherwise, it is really hard to stay within one force org. it could be just me but i think the only people that would have a problem are guard players. marines and chaos both can have som really pointy squads (which is kinda the point of the big tourney) Even orks can drag out their 10 mega armor nob squad for a change. But hey i am not in charge of this i am just thowing out ideas

I'm fine with it, but you have to remember, many of the "other" people who might attend may not have higher point armies. (ie many kids). I think you will be preventing a few individuals from attending if you go with the higher point limits. Also, I remember last year we didn't get over till evening time. If you go with the higher point limits, the tournament is also going to have to last longer. You will need a minimum 3hrs per round I would say. Just adding to the conversation.

Shaun makes a good point. How about something like a 3 on 3 tourney with randomly selected partners and 2000 points each on big boards, with each force having hidden objectives (to your partners and opponents)? Something like Lobdell's idea for the Battle of the Bulge board. Limit it to two rounds (3.5 hours each) and switch up partners for game two. Winner determined by points from getting your hidden objectives in addition to other points from the round, plus soft scores like painting and comp (assuming we will all be good sports of course).
As for Norton's request. He may have to do some lobbying with the local female population, but its probably not out of the question.

It's been quite some time since I've tried my trade in Geneseo. I'm sure I could dig up an old acquintance or two... as for getting them into those outfits (in public) hmm ...

I like the idea as well but think it would work better at Boldos over two days, maybe saturday and sunday or two sundays in a row (thinking of you Iron Warrior). But for Geneseo, since there are some 40K players there that may also show up and play as well ( we hope) I think a more standard tourney might be the way to go. If we want a more modified tourney I would rather see 3 hour rounds since I hate being rushed and having to guess at what would have happened if was actually finished each mission.

So what if we get some folks that don't play that well ... thats why you get random partners. Besides, who are these mystery folk? I think its unlikely that we will have many new players turnout (especially that wouldnt have fun with this idea). So why not try something different? The problem with three hour rounds is that some folks play quickly and then have to sit around for an hour waiting for the next round (i.e. figuring out how to play within the time limits is part of the game ... as long as your oponent isn't stalling you of course). Plus, its time to shake up tourney format. I, for one, am very unlikely to spend a whole weekend at Boldos just to play a 3 on 3 tourney.

All I was trying to say was this. most new players can play well in normal one on ones, but may not be the best partners to have. Big games take time, plus some armies take longer to get going and come on stronger in later rounds. This type a tournament reward armies that can make a great initial impact but may falter in the later rounds. That is the disadvantage to playing a huge game with a shorter time limit.
As for "new" players, there usually are a few players from Buffalo there, I know several Geneseo players (Chase for one), Stampy and Dan will be up from the southern tier I bet, and we also have links to the Syracuse board as well. I am sure with the proper amount of antagonizing they can be persuaded to come try to get some payback after DaBoyz schooled them in their hometown.
