Scott please dont apologize you brought up some decent questions that should be addressed.
1) This is the same GT that was at Geneseo last year. There has been talk of finding it a permanent date and convention to be attached to. It will be run this year in conjunction with SimCon at U of R.
2) What DaBoyz stands or above all is fun. It will be up to the people in charge as to how they ultimately decide to run the tournament and part of the reason we wanted Buffalo and Syracuse representation is so that the ideas of each upstate gaming group makes it into the tournament. Personally I believe you can run a highly competitive tourney without turning it into a 'ard Boyz event. The challenge of how to balance good fun with good competition is yours.
3) What is needed is still yet to be determined. Hopefully the three organizers can come up with the basic rules and format for the tourney then delegate responsibility to others in areas of terrain and board building, trophies, promotions, flyers, etc. Having a gamer in each major western NY city as well as being added to the GT circuit ( if we do so) could really increase the attendance and caliber of opponents. There are alot of DaBoyz players here that will help when directed to do so I can assure you.
4) Point cost is yet to be determined. Again its your call. I can tell you part of the reason for higher points value was to add variety into the armies, rather than seeing the "standard" 1750 builds.
I talked with Shaun yesterday. He was hopeful we could get these elections done very soon and get the ball rolling. Both years that we have run this event it has been a very positive and enjoyed by everyone that attended. I am sure that this time will be even better.
