I'm willing to drive down there, if I can get someone to help pay for gas... it will cost me about $45 in gas. (a full tank).. so, anyone wanna go in for playing at a comp heavy tournament, let me know.
I've been there twice, and i've placed 2nd and 1st... and I was bringing fairly fluffy marine lists (no special characters, a mix of units)

These guys run a very good tournament, would highly recommend the trip. I won't be able to make it because the baby is due the 11th.

I'm not familiar with the intricacies of comp, but since there's literally no reward for winning games I see no reason to take anything but a Special Olympics comptastic list. With that in mind, I have some questions if y'all would like to weigh in on them.
Would DA get penalized for fielding pure Deathwing? How about mixing in DW, RW and Greenwing elements? How much repetition is too much? Are special characters ok, particularly bad ones like Ezekiel or ones essential to a particular army build like Belial?

In the past, I've seen pure DW do well in comp and a mix of DW/RW do not so good. I hope this helps.

well, we had fun yesterday. they had 11 people total show up for the tournament, so it wasn't too big. They had a total of 5 prizes go out, so everyone had a pretty good chance of taking home SOMETHING.
In the end, I took Best Overall, fishboy took Best Painted, and grubnards took Best Sportsmanship. I put the $30 prize towards a new box set of terminators (the shooty kind, I wanna experiment with those for a bit, I think their underrated), and I know fishboy put his prize towards a box set of assault terminators.
I did go slightly insane for a while after my land raider immobilized itself on the first turn during my first move of the last round, loudly declaring that I was going to turn to chaos, because the imperium has done NOTHING for me except give me crap drivers for my tanks... though my insanity was then followed by my marines kicking the crap out of orks in hand to hand, so I suppose it was alright.
I played will first round, with his truly scary mostly mech guard list, and managed to swing a draw in my favor, as I prayed on the last turn my vehicles contesting the other objectives would all survive his shooting. Got to play against Grubnard's chaos in the second round. after a lucky barrage of shooting reduced his land raider to a single terminator sitting in a crater wondering what happened, and my terminators taking down his lord, khorne breserkers, daemon prince, and raptors in hand to hand combat(it was pretty cinematic... the last 2 models standing in that combat were my terminator sergeant and his daemon prince... and they both killed each other with their final blows.), the game was mine. Third round, I played against an entirely unpainted ork army, and managed to hold the line, securing one of the two objectives, while my opponent held none.
overall, I had a good time, and I hope everyone else did. Fishboy seemed to get lower scores in something... not sure why. He ended up placing like 6th overall, though his battlepoints where the same as mine, with 2 wins and a draw. His opponents must have giving his army a poor composition score or something. While I wouldn't have given him top marks (eldrad + avatar + 2x squads of rangers), I don't think he deserved the tanking he obviously got.

I've got a platoon and heavy weapons teams on the table! Come on! ;D Thanks for coming down guys. I'll post up a more detailed points breakdown on our forum in a few days. I'm not sure why Joe was behind on points. I have a feeling it was comp too but I haven't seen the numbers. His stuff looked great though!

You forgot to mention the Eldar that came to your aid after hearing the emperors finest crying hehe. I was playing next to him and interceeded with humor to bring him back to the game.
All in all I had fun. Great group of guys and great guys running the event. Horst made the trip there and back seem very short and that was almost as fun as the event. Not sure why I got hammered in overall points. I wont argue with a comp scoring but I think leaving it to your opponents is just way to objective. I'd bet the bug player dinked me because my snipers owned his big bugs. Its all I had that would kill them and if he had gotten to my lines with anything in his list he would have owned me. I played my army well and got scored low. Its also a reference to your local group. If guys dont like eldar they hammer them. I did not see any lists there that were over the top and scored everyone that I played well. I am used to playing much harder lists but I think because I brought something different that had an ability to handle different situations I got hammered in score. Not complaining but I think centralized judging fixes this problem with a preposted set of rules so you know what to expect.
Either way I will be back hehe. Had fun and thanks for hosting. It was one of the most relaxed events I have played in for a long time and reminds me why I love RTT's so much.

First off, thanks to Will, Dan and the rest of the folks down at Jupiter Games for making it a worthwhile event to drive down and attend. As Horst said, there were only a dozen of people there but it was a great group of people and a very laid back atmosphere.
My first game was against Chris K. from Syracuse, who played a Dark Angels army and we tied. Steve was my second match and well... you can read the highlights in his post above. (great game steve and I'll remember those warp time rolls again in the future) My last game was against Will and his mech guard. Let's just say that Will made the chaos gods cry that afternoon with my dismal performance. (again, great game Will and I hope to see you up in Rochester some time soon for a rematch).
There was a nice variety of armies there and the only armies not represented were Tau, Necrons, Chaos Daemons, and Dark Elder. I was surprised that I was the only Chaos army as you generally see a fair amount of them in this area. The Sisters army was beautifully painted and I wished I was able to match up against him.
Fishboy, nice meeting you in person and you had a great looking army. You have definitely inspired me to get to work on my Eldar army.

My offer still stands to help teach you and your son to paint. Actually that offer stands for anyone that reads this post as I have as much fun painting in a group as I do playing in one hehe.
