Men, Rob and I have had construction workers pounding out our new play space to have it done in time for this event. You guys will be breaking in our new play space tomorrow. Here is the info on the event. Sign-ups 9:30am Start Time 10:00am Points - 1850 Entry- $10.00 if we get over 18 player's, which we will, I will buy food. Scoring is as follows: 60 points for Battle Points - Win 16 points, Loss 4 points, Tie 8 points 48 points for Player Points - Everyone starts with 42 points. At the end of each game you will be asked "Did your opponent's behavior and/or army selection honestly make this a bad game for you?" One bad game gets you -7 points, two gets you - 21, 3 gets you - 42. If you act like a complete jerk during a game, a judge can hit you with an additional bad game score. At the end of the event you will chose who your best opponent was. Player's will get 2 additional points for each opponent that puts there name down as best opponent. 46 points for Painting - This is going to be painting judged with the GW score sheet which can be found: www.games-workshop.com/gws/content/article.jsp?catId=&categoryId=§ion=&pIndex=9&aId=3400027&start=107 Judge points- These are points that everyone starts with. They are only taken away if you are a pain to the organizer/judges. Examples are not reporting round results, leaving your stuff all over the place, being late to your match, scoring someone with a bad game when they shouldn't have been etc. Awards will be given out for the following Best Overall - Everything combined $70 in product as well as a slot in the finals. 2nd Overall- Qualifier slot for the finals Best General - Total Battle Points $ 40 in product Hobbyist - Sports + Painting $30 in product Fought the Good Fight - $10.00 in product given out by the judges at there discretion to the player the deserves it. Past award winners include Smitty. They also get free entry to the next GW tourney that they attend. It's gonna rain tomorrow so come have a good time here. I hope to see everyone there.

Just curious about something. I do NOT want this to turn into a pro/con comp discussion.
There is obviously a comp factor as per the player point question after each game. However, there are no composition guidelines as to duplicate/triplicate/special characters.
Sportsmanship aside, you are posing a question to a player after every game who just lost. Everyone has different views on army selection and comp. What are some acceptable examples a losing player could answer "yes" to the army selection question and justify docking someone player points for the list they brought.
Also, judge points can be taken away for answering "yes" to the army selection question when it was unjustified. What are some examples of unacceptable reasons for claiming your opponent's army selection made it a bad game for you.
I'm only wondering because it seems that without a comp matrix or guideline, each player who loses can blame it on the winner using a WAAC list.

Your right but they can't blame it on my judge or our system. Everyone is going to have to handle it maturely. Is this wishful thinking? Maybe. I happen to think that our player base is mature enough to use a system as such. If not we will find out.
At the end of each game, player's will be given a note card that simply says "Good Game/Bad Game" If they answer bad game then they will need to justify it to the judge and myself. It is completely subjective and totally on the player's. I spoke with a player recently that had the pleasure of playing in "The Alamo". They use a similar system there. In fact it's nearly identical. Except there event is longer then mine. I am not going to get into a discussion about comp. There is no proper system. Anyone that gets a "bad game" score can feel free to come up to me at the end of the event and request the reason for being scored as such. I will give you an explanation, without breaking the opponents anonymity. There are only two ways to be scored bad. You acted like a jerk during the game. You brought a busted list. Hopefully, this system will encourage player's to talk about the flavor of there army. Imagine actually telling your opponent the story behind how you came up with your list. The reason you thought that 3 Tervigon's or 9 obliterators was a good idea. It's your list. It's your score. It's not my responsibility to tell people what's fair or what's fun. So bring what you like just be ready to tell people why it's flavorful while still being a good list. You know, actually read the other 145 pages in the book not just the 10 pages on stats. Hope that helps.

Cool, thanks for the response Travis. I like the comp analogy. I'm sure it will go smoothly.

Whoever was going to trade me autocannon bits+$10 for my rhino... I forgot your name I left after the tournament to go get the kit, when I came back, nobody was there. I was only gone for like 15 minutes, max, so this surprised me. Ah well... its all good. Also... courtney is a standup guy. Excellent game, i'd like a rematch sometime where we can actually finish... I think our game could have gone either way. I give the judge -1000 player discretion points for not announcing the end of the round before 5 minutes before the end. When I pay for tournament entry, I'd expect the same chance of winning as everyone else... not to get some BS "-3 judge discretion" that puts me 2 points below Chris Courtney. of course, when I asked about this, I was told it was because A) he had to ask me to register twice, and B) because I was a bit confused with the scoring system. Well, I was still registered 15 minutes before the deadline, and of COURSE the scoring was confusing, because the points values used in the supplied missions for objectives were not used, and a new system was used that was not explained to me, and no scoring sheets were provided. The only time I even talked to him about a mission was at round 3 (opponents reported scores for other games), where I may have asked twice to ensure I understood before reporting the score. God forbid I want to ensure I report the scores correctly. As for Courtney, who came in first... our last game could have gone either way had we had time to finish it. If someone other than me had to win overall, i'm glad it was you. Thank you for acknowledging the BS that was this ruling, and for splitting the difference in prize money... our last game was too close to call anyway, and a dead tie seems appropriate.

You won in my book dude. If you beat someone on the final round at the #1 table, that same person shouldn't take first over you. Oh wait that happened to me too last month!
I guess we just gotta accept that scoring loopholes are sometimes big enough for anyone to slip through.

I wouldn't mind loosing the tournament to a person I beat in the last round, if it was for a legit reason. if his painting score + his battlepoints score is higher than mine, thats a legit reason.
if the judge decides to remove points from me because he finds me annoying, and gives me no prior warning that he will do so unless I stop annoying him, then d**n, that just butters my buns.
and haha, hyv3, a fat joke. I'm going to have to beat your army twice as hard next time I see you ><

hah I wasn't trying to make a fat joke on purpose.
It's hard to resist tho when you say things like "butters my buns" lol.
You're welcome to try and beat me twice as hard, but you haven't beat me since the first game we ever played. Oh snap!

Actually Travis did explain how the system worked at the beginning but apparently you weren't listening... Oh and wait its even in this post about the Judges' Points. Dude you lost grow up and quit b*tchin' . Or better yet next time just don't come if you don't like the system.. The only time you aren't winning is when you are winning..

You make a statement like "dude you lost"... fine... Ignore the fact that my battle points + sportsmanship + painting was 1 point higher than 2nd place.
the reason I lost is because the judge arbitrarily took 3 points off. I'm not female doging (well I suppose I am, though i'm trying to keep it civil), i'm stating my opinion that its a poor system when I take at MOST 5 minutes of a judges time costs me 1st place.

Scoring qualms aside, what missions ended up getting played? I wanted to come, but got roped into some stuff with my girlfriend's family.
