I have been watching this for quite some time, and since my last post there still hasn’t been anything accomplished other than people telling story’s about different comp systems. Is there going to be a decision made anytime soon so some of us can get ready? There isn’t even tickets on sale yet and they were scheduled go up in July. I really want to attend but if this continues I will be pulling out and just going to mechanicon, and that would be a shame because I have been looking forward to Da Boyz 2011 since the day after the last one.

We have been wanting to launch a new web site for some time, but we have some issues with getting the correct address.
We are hoping to put the final painting and comp rubric up on the site and start advertising, but since the cat is out of the bag we plan on posting the comp rubric in a few days. The comp rubric should not change after it gets posted, but I think we might want to look at once the sister’s codex gets released.

I am new to these forums, and considering coming to DaBoyz for the first time this year.
I have been playing 40k since 8th ed of fantasy came out. And I have some thoughts on what is being said here.
1) DO NOT do player judged comp. It doesn't take many bad apples to ruin the entire system. During 7th edition(fantasy), people tried this, and what always happens is the people who don't want comp at all, ensure that it fails by giving max scores to everyone they play. You don't want your event decided by this.
Even if everyone does it honestly and fairly, you are still talking about 100 different people's opinions are on different lists. Luck of the draw does enough to determine your event, it should determine your comp score. Even if everyone hates the rubric system, it is being applied evenhandedly.
Lastly, there isn't really a way to "improve" player judged comp. It either kinda worked, and you will use it again. Or it failed miserably and leads to no comp next year. At least with a system you can get feedback and determine what did and did not work, hopefully leading to a better system the next year.
2) I 100% agree with what Wyatt said. As it stands now, this comp "rubric" seems more about promoting diverse lists and not about balancing power levels. IF this is true, it should only be used to determine if a list is legal and not have a impact on overall scores.
If it is intended to in some way balance power levels and give "weaker" lists a better chance of winning the event, then I firmly believe you are only half-way there. There NEEDS to be something specific to each book included. Right now, penalties for taking 2 of the same elite are pretty brutal. What about armies that can play with FoC charts by taking a relatively cheap SC?
Why is the Fast slot treated differently than elites? 2 units of terminators is -20 points, 2 units of TWC are -10.
Books are different. Esp those without FoC changing characters. Some books can get ranged tank busting in every slot, due to wargear upgrades or dedicated transports. Other books cannot.
You already admit certain books are at more of a disadvantage by including a penalty reduction for some of them. I think it is a good start, but I wouldn't be satisfied with it the way that it is.
Note: I will likely still come, regardless if it is changed. But I just think it could be improved.
PS: why have a rubric and "hidden" points? All it does if give people an expectation of what they will get, only to be disappointed.
Likely, that is what you are going to use to balance power levels of books, so just make your thoughts on those public as well. A half public, half private system is bound only to upset people when they show up.

I took a long look at the comp and think you guys did a pretty decent job. There are a lot of ways to loose points and no way to gain them so you realllllly have to put your mind to it heheh. My standard eldar list does great all the way up to the point I add Eldrad hehe. Now I have to decide if I want a 70 or 50 hehe.

What about the dark eldar? You might have to step up your game because we might have another golden deamon winner showing up.

Looks good to me. I can play the GK army I built at 70 or drop a transport for 80.
It's pretty tough, but you'll get the types of lists you're looking for. Incidentally, my Nid list from last year wouldn't be legal this year hehe =)
I'm hoping to start playtesting the missions after ArdBoyz if anyone wants to help.

I don't know if you guys have done this already, but I made an Excel spreadsheet that figures out your comp score. You just fill out the dark grey cells, and it finds your score and tells you whether you're eligible to play. Hope it's helpful to some people. (And if you find any bugs, let me know) Attachments:

Here is the actual functioning spread sheet. Sorry Timbo I thought they were posting this on the website not a PDF. You can only fill in the penalty boxes. Also you dont have to make the number negative , so if you are minus 10 pts just put 10 in the box. Attachments:

Jay work has been stupid crazy and I have not had time to paint. Apparently I am supposed to work all hours and it is pissing me off heh. That is why I painted a Malifaux Crew so I could actually get something done. I have not played a game of 40K since the ATC. At least there will be beer at this event hehehe.
By the way I still owe you $15 for that ATC shirt.

You use this for the team event. there is no comp for that and it is 2000 points.
