Will VC players be able to Invoke into HTH or not? What's the official ruling?

Boy I would love to get right into this but this si a large question which others are presently fighting over. GW must know about it and I hope they get an answer out before the tournament. My inclination is no but I want to wait until they answer.

Boldo, have you read the arguments for and against or do we need to rehash them ... again . For the record, I'm in the camp that follows RAW ... i.e. the spell CAN be cast into HtH.

I thought strictly by RAW, it says nothing about being able to cast into combat?

Well, the rules for the spell specifically describe what to do when cast on a unit in HtH combat ... and the rules say you need a specific description to be able to cast into combat. What more do you need? The spell description meets the requirement in the main rule book. There is no longer a requirement that spells say "this can be cast on a unit in HtH combat".

I was trying not to start a fight. Yes I know the arguments for and against and I was just hoping that GW did as well and would do something about it. This needs an official ruling as the arguments for both sides are good. If forced I will make a ruling but I would like to see if a week or so gets some online concensus which is not based upon people opinion of VC. I think there will be some sort of decision at Direwolf and at Warhammer forum which is usable as a basis for my ruling. This is important to players and a real important rules snafu on GW parts, it may sound like a cliche, but give it a little more time and perhaps the problem will go away.

OK then. I won't say another word about. But can we get a tad bit of notice about this before the tournament.

Is one week enough? I would love to wait until after easter but I understand your need for an answer sooner rather than later. If you need more time let me know.

That's fine. Just post up your answer in this thread and I'll get it.

I just read that GW Canada FAQ'd this. Unfortunately I am at work and the webfilter won't let me go to the website to find out what it says.

I just looked and I only saw the old faq. Is there something else. Does someone have a link?

Here's what I read... Here is the GW Canada official response that has been floated about. Finally found the link. You'll need to go down to the Commissar's Corner entry for March 1, directly under the table of GT qualifiers. "For the 2008-2009 Hall of Heroes season Invocation of Nehek, Vanhels Danse Macabre and the replenished wounds from Summon Undead Horde can target friendly units engaged in close combat." Games Workshop Canada Community Site Here is the url as the link didn't copy... ca.games-workshop.com/Community/Hall_of_Heroes/CommisarC.htmHopefully this helps.

Normally I retort 'Great, you can summon the next time we play in Canada!', but then I remember alot of you guys actually play in Canada.

Well that looks like that dead link but the "Commisar" mentioned is Cory Burns who used to run the Canadian GT's. My thoughts on this power is that yes it a very good, however it is not very different from the Tomb Kings power that can raise skeletons in close combat as well. I would think that if it is allowed in one army, that it also should be allowed in the VC army.
