I noticed on Boldos site that a league for 1000pt fantasy starts in june. Is that this year or was that last year? ;D

I believe it was last year, but it might not be a bad idea to do an escallation league for fantasy.

I'm pretty sure it was last year, too. Is there already results posted? I cant check the Boldos site from work unless he removes all references to games.... Funny - I was just thinking we should do another 1K league earlier this week. Matt & Sexy were playing a 1K last night, looked like fun. Not to mention a few more guys seemed interested in starting WHFB - maybe an escalation league could be in order?

If you find someone to run it (which seems to be the hardest part) I would be intersted in playing in it.

I like the scalation league idea. Been thinking of starting anew fantasy army anyway and this would be a good way to do it. Needs to be decided soon though cause I'd have to buy the stuff before summer. Minimal income over the summer months.
Just a thought, but couldn't two people wrok together to run it. This would keep on eperson from having to bear the entire load. They could rotate as to who's in charge at any given time. I might be willing to co-run it with someone, with the understanding that I am gone for parts of the summer. Not as much as last year, so i cna be involved for a change. But I won't do it alone. Not falling into that trap.

At present, either would be fine for me, but there is a chance that I will have classes Thursdya evenings, making them bad. Won't know for a bit though.

What we have run the past few years was simple - 1000pt games, up to 2 a night/week, turn in scores to Boldo. We used a hockey scoring system; 3 for a win, 1 for a tie, 0 for a loss. ( or something like that).
Quick and dirty. Doesnt do much to encourage painting an army, but 1K games are a nice intoduction to learning the game (alot less units to confuse) and offer much different strategies to established players thanks to the limitations of the game size (no lord level characters, one rare choice). We could always intorduce a "scenario of the week" to change it up.

I was under the impression we were going with the escalation league idea. Start small and build gradually to a full size army. This brings in the smal army variety as well as encourages painting. It would also bring in some diversity to tourneys as more armies mean more variety.

Nothing wrong with this, but as Ron said, its a pain in the @ss to run, especially as people lose interest drop out or just dont have the time to meet painting deadlines. Remember theres alot more models in fantasy. I guess an escalation league is worth a try is someone wants to run it, but I think it will be much more painful than the 40K one. Problem is WHFB does not work all that well as a skirmish level game. There are rules for it (Fantasy in a flash, warhammer skirmish), but they really dont lend themselves as well as 40K which is already a skirmish level game.

John is correct, its harder to do an escalation league with fantasy because its a heck of alot more models...but its not impossible. The thing is 200 points in 40k might be 10 guys, in fantasy 200 points could be 30 or more guys!
I am not oppose to the idea, infact it would encourage me to put my skaven army together. its just harder to do. ;D

One could do increments of 250 every month to help that out. Might also help slow the 'Burnout' that happened towards the end of the 40k league.
1000 points to 2500 points over a 6 month period. Or perhaps start out at 500?
I could help out on Thursday nights if help was needed, shouldn't be to hard to do.

As I mentioned before, I'd be willing to joint run it with someone. I like the idea of doing it over longer periods as well. I was thinking of maybe just posting match lists each month and the people on the list have the month to complete the match and report results. 250 increments starting at 500 pts, ending at 2250. Final round done in a tourney setting for league members, so as to grade both generalship and painting. Longer time and flexible scheduling should decrease burnout. I'd like to do this as it would give me good motivation to start my second army (have to decide what it will be). Plus it will keep me painting. But as I also said before. I will not run it alone. I'm out of town for parts of the summer, and I don't really want the strain.
