Meeting Notes:
-First and foremost, Doug was late. What the hell man?
TablesThe general consensus is most tables worked very well and that moving forward we are going to try and improve the overall quality of our tables for the 2010 GT.
One idea that came up was something similar to other tournaments where certain terrain types have special rules that apply in addition to the standard mission rules.
The big thing going into next year is going to be better communication between our board builders so that we don't end up with redundant themes. The current idea is to have a board specific thread where people can post/read what they and others and building.
There was also mention of prize support for the best looking tables.
RaffleIn 2010 the raffle will be split between a larger prize that everyone gets one ticket for upon entering, and several smaller prizes that people can buy extra tickets for.
Message BoardsJay would like a DBGT2010 specific section of the board to self-contain all the functions related to planning/play-testing/official information/ect. The tournament organizers would have moderator privileges on this section of the board only.
WebsitePlans are underway for a site overhaul this winter to improve design, navigation, and functionality. More to come.
GT 2010 Additional EventsWe want to be able to offer events besides just a 40k tournament during the weekend. Preliminary ideas include:
- Warhammer Fantasy
- Space Hulk
- Giant Apocalypse Game
- Videogames
Army Lists2010 will most likely include an incentive (5 bonus points) for players to submit army lists and fluff before the tournament for judges to be able to consider for comp.
ScoresThe current proposed weighting for scores in 2010 is:
55% Battle
20% Comp
15% Sportsmanship
10% Painting / Appearance
In addition, several changes are going to be instituted in score reporting. While details are not nailed down, the idea will be to reduce the complexity of score reporting that we faced in 2009. Ideally, this would boil down to a single easy-to-understand sheet to report battle/comp/sports/painting.
CompThere is also a proposed limit to army builds that will restrict unit selection to a single "named" character. This is done with the intention of stopping super-combinations of multiple named characters while also allowing for armies whose named choice matches their theme without penalty (IE: Belial leading a deathwing army)
Comp scoring will now go into the negatives to allow players to more heavily penalize their opponents for bringing burly lists.
Player's Choice: CompWhen displaying their armies for player's choice in comp, players will be required to leave several copies of their army list for other players to review. This will hopefully clear up the confusion we had in 2009 when some players were unsure about what they were judging.
Player's Choice: PaintingPlayers will initially vote on the best painted army at the GT. The top finishers (exact number TBD) will receive bonus points to their overall score, and be judged separately by tournament judges for the best overall painting award.
More Points/Extra GamesThe consensus seems to be that we are staying with 3 games saturday and 2 sunday, and points will increase from 1850 to 2000-ish.
Mandatory Play SpeedWith the success of a mandatory 3 turns in 2009, the number is going to be increased in 2010 to 4 or possibly 5 turns. If this is decided, players will be given plenty of advance notice so they can take whatever steps are necessary to ensure they can play a full 3/4/5 turns in the time alotted.
MissionsThe focus of missions in 2010 is going to be transparency. There is going to be a formal procedure in place for players to submit mission ideas, for others in Da Boyz and anywhere else to playtest these missions, and for feedback to be incorporated. That way, there are no surprises or need for FAQs when the actual GT hits. A greater variety of scenarios are encouraged, and anyone who has a good idea should formally draft and submit it to the organizers.
The idea behind Primary/Secondary/Tertiary/Bonus objectives will remain. It was decided that having missions where you couldn't earn all the bonus objectives was a good thing, and it is strongly recommended that if you're going to submit a mission that you keep with the philosophy that out of 50 points, a player may only be able to earn 47 or 48 at the most.
SportsmanshipIn an effort to create a wider difference between top scoring sportsmen, there are several new ideas that have been proposed including:
- Scoring at the end of the tournament so that all opponents can be compared to one another.
- Doing away with the sometimes-restricting checklist system.
- Incorporating new items into the existing checklist system.
Further details will be announced by organizers in the future.
=====
I think that's it. If I missed anything, anyone who was at the meeting feel free to add. It should be noted this is all up the air, but this is going to be the general philosophy behind Da Boyz GT 2010; transparency, simplicity, variety.
