@ Brian, larger models will be considered as well as players using multiple higher point models. Remember we have played big games with 2000pts plus a piece and the whole intent is not to get bogged down. I am sure accommodations will be made!
@ Inzeos, I dont see how we can have a multinight Apocalypse game. It needs to be wrapped up in one evening for the following reasons: 1) We will be using some tables and scenery from the event that will have to be returned, 2) People will most likely be using some models from their tournament armies, and 3) We wont have someone to babysit the tables between nights.
Again this is for fun! If we start at 7pm we have the hall until 2am, that is 7 hours! If you must go drinking that evening then plan accordingly and bring a suicide style force that will be wiped out before the "witching hours". If you want to play then play its just that simple.

Created a new thread for discussing the possibility of an apocalypse game at the tournament.
Seems like a populare idea, and should be discussed apart from the main tournament ideas so we don't get confusion on what is being talked about.

I think maybe people are missing the point.
First we need to decide what we want to do first and then decide how we are going to do it.
There is alot of interest doing a Apoc game, but we need ideas on what to run not how to run it.
How to run it will come in time. my goal is get the events set before the end of the year.
Does everyone want to see a apoc event? what about a 40k role playing event. or space hulk or other games that could be non-gw events.
I am looking for ideas. Remember the 40k GT will be the main event. everything else comes secondary.
BTW: we are discussing the point limits for the 40k GT. for info to come.

Fair enough Jay. Just to clarify where we might be at:
Main Event
40K tourney 5 rounds ( 3 games saturday, 2 on sunday ) 2000 points ? Battle 55, Comp 25, Painting 20, Sports 10 1 Named Character limitation Cost included in admission
Side Events
Friday- There is some interest in running a Space Hulk game. What other events would be good besides open gaming? Cost and prizes (if any) to be determined.
Saturday- It looks like a fair amount of support for an Apocalypse game. There should be admission for the main event ( possibly free or a small fee if food is included) and a seperate cost to those wishing to only play in this event. Cost, prizes and food to be determined. Open gaming should also be available.
Sunday- Is there any support for a Painting Contest, or possibly a Paint and Take, or Speedpainting Contest? Cost and prizes to be determined.
What can we add to the list? I am willing to organize the Apocalypse game as well as the main event. Are there volunteers for the other events? James you suggested the Space Hulk game, would you like to make that happen?

This is subject to change.
I think You are getting a little too over enthusiatic. I think what Jay is trying to do is figure out what exactly, if any, will be our additional events. Once we have figurered out what they are then we can dole out who what where and how later.
So far we see a fair intrest in Apocaplypse (OK lets move on to see if there are any other games of intrest)
Gothic? Space Hulk? Necromunda? 40k Epic? Kill Team? Planetstrike? City Fight?
non-40k games: Fantasy? Mordhiem? Ancients?
Non-GW games: Flames of War? War Machine? Warbirds?
Any other ideas or thoughts on what you may want to see in addition to the main tournement?

I like all the ideas about expanding the GT to be more than just the tournament, but the problem I see is limited time. So, how about this: run some of the events through the overnight. You could have some nice big long Apocalypse games Friday night to Saturday morning or Saturday night through to Sunday morning. You could host a breakfast, and maybe offer up "Ironman" awards to those who lasted the entire weekend without sleep.
Just a suggestion.

While the whole overnight thing is a great idea, I dont think we have access beyond 2am to the room. Jay please correct me if I am wrong. Also please understand that one of the judges will have to be present as well as being available for the tournament both saturday and sunday. I will need a few hours of sleep and a shower sometime.
Back to what Ron posted. What additional events should we see. Apocalypse is a given but what else? Pick your top three and tell us why they should be included.

Back to what Ron posted. What additional events should we see. Apocalypse is a given but what else? Pick your top three and tell us why they should be included. 1: 500 pt, knock out style ladder tournament... fast and fun, with quick games this could be done in a few hours on one of the nights, minor prizes for people that last the longest, worst//cheesiest 500 pt army, etc 2: someone mentioned grot racing... turn it into rhino//raider//carnifex//devilfish racing to fit everyones armies? 3: again, planetstrike or apocalypse

Space Hulk would be cool. We'd probably need to do a variation on the rules though, as it's actually a 2 player game, and expensive at that. An ancients tournament on saturday might be cool. Wouldn't really take anything away from the 40k tournament and would give boldo something to do for the day Warbirds could be a good friday or saturday night game. It's a WWII airplane game that's easy to play, looks pretty cool on a table and wouldn't require the players to bring any additional materials.

A cool variation on space hulk might involve putting together a special 5 man kill team of terminators to bring for a mini-tournament on friday night with some minor prize support for overall winner and best painted kill team. You'd have to tweak the rules a little bit but nothing insane. Say make it a 4 player free for all on a single board and last man standing wins the round.
You could even support an equivalence with different factions.
Say you post the rules 6 months ahead of time saying you're going to get 5 guys and what they're armed with. That way you end up with everyone on a level playing field and it becomes something of a cross between space hulk and chess.
Also, if I know that far ahead of time what my guys are packing, I can make custom figures to bring with me. It could be loyalist, chaos, meganobz, wraithguard, crisis suits, or even ogryns, so long as they're properly modeled.

I spoke with Jay briefly about some ideas that we had kicking around.
Apocalypse Game- We had talked about having a game that was going constantly throughout one day. Where people would take a shift keeping the board going. When big pieces died, they would re-spawn back on the board. That way people could get to play with some of the bigger figures figures that they couldn't afford. It would be great for people to be able to see Titans and then use them for a couple of turns.
Space Hulk- I have someone working on a 3-d version of the game. He has the pieces caste using dental plaster. Currently, he has 75% of the first mission board done.
Dawn of War- I spoke with Rob, the owner of Cyberstorm about bringing 8 computers down for the either a day or the weekend. They currently have dawn of War installed with all of the expansions. If people wanted to have Dawn of War 2 instead he is more then happy to make that happen. The computers are all new. The monitors are large and he would have all the computers networked together.
Warhammer Fantasy- I spoke with Pete and he said that he would be happy to judge the fantasy tourney. He would prefer it to be a one day event on Sunday if possible.
Let me know if you guys have any other other questions. I am committing to all of the above being there.

I would caution against doing scheduled side events late into the night. This past year I played against a few people who had a hard time gaming fast enough to get to round 3 let alone round 4. I can only imagine the mental and physical tole of not sleeping or sleeping very little would have on the main event.
