This is true, but finishing 2nd in battle, 3rd in sports, 2nd in paint, and 1st in comp could be enough to win too. There was a 4 point difference in battle, and 6 point difference in paint, and paint was graded early on in the tournament, that's just the way it worked out and that's how close it was. Or one could say....if you dont have a top 4 painted army, you ain't winning no matter what......

Corey,
You metnion that there is little difference between my wysiwyg and the one for maurader but I see a huge difference in that mine empowers players to be careful and the maurder one requires players to do extra work to get their army approved. I have already talked to friends of mine who are going and they are painting up extra models to replace their dioramas incase comeone complains rather than preapprove them.
I have been thinking a lot recently about why people do not attend tournaments and I think one of the big reasons is required prep. Even if an army list is required in advance some people will stay home. Perhaps you feel this is not a big deal but lat year John would never have thought his dragon eagles were a problem. I would never have thought my dwarves are a problem either but the MM rules say better careful than sorry, so do lots of work to attend (I still feel outsiders have a harder time with this than others but...). I feel this is asking a lot of players but it will probably pre-reg out and should have 30 or so players at the tournament so perhaps I have blown this out of proportions and it is only us that feel this is a bit much to ask people to play a game.

I was "empowered"(boy, just by using that word I feel like a feminist ;D) last year, and we see how that worked out. Anyway, the whole WYSIWYG issue stands as the black cloud over last year's otherwise positive event, so we took steps to avoid the issue again, better safe than sorry I suppose.
Yes, it is extra work, but I think I'd rather play against people who care enough to do a little extra work than those who don't. However, in the information age, it's easier for me to take snapshots of my conversions and email them to an orginizer than it is to paint up replacement troops as a contingency.

Of course Cirrus, I only said that as I couldn't go last year due to a wedding. I will be there.

Cory,
I realize this is all the result of problems last year but I have thought from the start that the judge should have spoken to the complainer and let play go on. As a judge and organizer of tournaments you want everyone to have a good time and come back. If someone is using something a bit odd fine they can just inform their oppoents which I am sure happened. If that is not good enough then the judge should be called right away before the game. The judge can handle it right there and it seemed to me it would have worked better to tell the complainer to relax as it is a converson. Either way it ended up being handled badly, which is easy to do, so now we all suffer. One bad apple can ruin the whole apple cart.
