OOO that is wrong in so many ways....well except in Kentucky. I have some questions about your comp ideas. I am new to this area and your events so it will take me a while to fit in however: How do you handle armies that have limited troop choices like Necrons. Would that army get penalized for having duplicate units? Tau would have a similar problem wouldn't they? Some armies have many troop choices while other armies do not. How ould those armies get scored if their selections are limited due to Codex. Think of a Dark Eldar army. An ancient codex with so much out of date and only 2 real viable lists. Due to its limited choices would this dex get penalized too? I probably won't be able to tweak any lists any time soon but eventually my lists should fit more into your groups ideals. I really want to tune into your train of thought for future lists and updates. Also have you guys finalized any comp rules yet?

Fishboy, I know in the past DaBoyz take the army into consideration when judging comp. I too play necrons. They were my first army. You will not be judged for taking a certain troop choice if that is the only troop you have to choose from. In the case of necrons, just take larger units. Instead of 10 man minimum sized units, take 2 20 man units. Tau, take a couple fire warriors and maybe add a kroot squad in for a boost.
But the players know enough about all the armies to know that some like you mentioned do not have the options for more diverse troops. So work with wat you have and go with a bigger unit size or more units. And Welcome!

two golden rules to follow for comp:
1) take large sized units (i.e.,. don't take squads of 5 if you have the option of taking squads of 10)
2) take a variety of units when possible (don't take nothing but immortals in a necron army, take a few destroyers as well) with a variety of equipment choices (again, if possible)
and boom, your good to go.

Yeah. I got a good laugh about the timing too. He makes several good points though.

"I invented mech guard and I'm too awesome. Sorry everybody, I ruined everything. But don't worry, I'll try to go easy on you because my awesomeness cannot be helped." God, could a person be more arrogant?

Getting back to the initial question posed, yes there will be comp scored in DaBoyz GT. You can complain all you like and debate your points as to why it should or should not be included but in the end it will happen. Comp will be used to help balance the disparity between hyper competitive lists and more balanced hobby oriented lists. No you will not be "demonized" or will you be "a bad person" if you play a hyper competitive list but your probably will not be a winner either. DaBoyz was started to promote the hobby as a whole and the original intent of the tournament was to promote our view and style of playing. 'Ard Boyz was set up for nasty lists to compete against one another ( and recently it seems Adepticon as well ) so if this is your style of play and the way you choose to have fun and "be challenged" then please direct you attention to one of these fine tournaments. If you wish to have fun and play against some of the best players here and in the northeast, then prepare for our tournament. I promise as an organizer that we will continue to make improvements in scoring so that one dimensional over the top armies will not ruin the fun of the majority of players. If you feel like being "That Guy" and going against the intent of the event by trying to cram your 'Ard Boys list down our throats, feel free to do so! After all your money will be collected just like everyone else's and will be used to fund some fantastic prizes, just like last year, the difference being that comp scores will matter and might actually prevent you from winning. ( Funny no one ever complained about last year's prizes...)
So do what you want, I really could care less, but understand that your decisions on how to construct your army will affect your outcome. I really dont wish to post some sort of idiotic rubric which is taken as a challenge to break nor will I entertain long debates on what should be scored high and what should be downgraded. You all play the game, you know what's good and what's bad, you do the math.
Lastly, as for the comments about personal attacks, bullying and threatened physical harm...I think you are way off base and quite frankly out of your freaking mind! No one has ever been SERIOUSLY threatened with violence on any of these forums, and anytime a difference of opinion arrises some people take it as a personal attack. Let's set the record straight, I can ( and will ) disagree with anyone here when the situation arises regardless of how I feel about them personally. I'm not your mom and I am not here to wrap you in your warm fuzzy blanky, feed you milk and cookies, kiss you on the forehead and tell you what a special little guy you are! What I are trying to do is make sure that in October we will again fill a hall with some of the best players around competing for wonderful prizes, and yes I am concerned that each and every person there has FUN. Fun is the reason we play this game and when I commit 3 or more hours to a game ( let alone an entire weekend to a tournament ) not only do I expect to have fun, but I also try to make this an enjoyable experience for my opponent as well. If you cant see this then please stay home ( just like last year! ) Fun can be had in many ways, if you cant see this and still disagree with this approach then maybe 40K just isnt your thing....fantasy is a great game!
