who won this? After in game 3, when 20 of my bikers were charged by a deffkopta and 2 warbikers, and all 20 bikers fled off the table in terror, I conceded, and left, before the urge to smash my models with a hammer overpowered me.
who won?

Ouch bro, I can sympathize with that. 18 missiles per turn doesn't mean all that much when they miss or fail to damage all game. I remember that Ben got 4th cuz Courtney chipmunked his Sports I also got a 0 on comp because I used Chaos Knights for my Thunderwolves. WYSIWYG with marine parts, weapons and backpacks, but I guess that isn't acceptable I went 1-2. Lost to a nicely painted and competitive DE army where my opening salvoes of missile launchers managed to do naught but blow up a single Raider. Not a fan of the scenario either. Lost to a solid Tau army where my missiles managed to blow up 2 Piranhas (spent an entire turn of shooting on 1 Piranha and didn't do anything to it!), Immobilized 1 Hammerhead and blow off the Ion Cannon of another. It didn't help that my Thunderwolves all got blown away by kroot rifles on the first turn when he seized the initiative Then I got my break against a cool looking bug army. It had some scary bits (Swarmlord, Trygon, lots of little bugs) but was overall too much of a kitchen sink set up with 1 of everything. Slow bugs + open snow table + 18 missile launchers that felt like doing something = bad matchup and max points for me. All my games were fun and against armies I don't normally see (DE, Tau and nids, what are the odds?). I had a great time against some well run competitive armies, and that's really all I'm looking for. Tables were nice, tourney was well run, but that comp thing still burns me.

also, dark angels chris taught me a very good reason why I shouldn't hold my entire army in reserve. I normally hold my entire army in reserves when its a killpoints mission, especially when my army is all bikes/speeders. Chris rushed my board edge though, and by my second turn when my army came in, he had 2 venerable dreadnoughts and a land raider, sitting near my edge, all smoked... there was nowhere I could go to avoid being charged by scary, scary things.
never considered anyone would take this strategy... definitely was a bad call on my part.

Jay took first and I took second. The difference between us was Jay max pointed the last game while I failed only got two of the three objectives from Allen who played a solid Noise Marine army.
Overall the day was fun. I enjoyed playing two of the guys who drove up from Elmira to participate in our tourney as well as one of our local players. The first guy I played had a well painted Ultramarine army with Calgar. He played tough but kept Calgar in the corner too long, allowing me to gain control of most of the board. In my second game I played a Tau army that featured 6 Broadsides and a squad of 5 Suits that had two commanders in it. He placed his whole army in cover and shot out my transports. I had to walk to him but in the end I managed to defeat all of his army except for 1 lone Devilfish. Game 3 I played Allen and his Noise Marines. He had a decent army but sat in the corner taking blastmaster potshots at me while I advanced. By the time he decided to fight I was well on my way to controlling two objectives. Good game, great army and a fun experience.
I too thought comp was just OK but for some different reasons that you might expect. The scenarios were also decent but could use a bit more refining which I am sure Jay has in store.
Steve I am a bit disappointed that you packed up after game three. You should realize this game is more that just crushing your opponents, you should have fun win or lose. It was good to see you try something new and hopefully you learned a bit more by playing what you did.
Chumby here is a thought, maybe you should consider something different than the "all my eggs in one basket" style armies. Yes missile launchers are good but so are plenty of other weapons. I am glad to see you approved of the competion. I also saw some hard competitive lists that would have been a challenge to play against.
Bottom line for me was that I had a good time saturday and I do hope that everyone else can say the same thing about there experience. Thanks for a well run event and good luck to all who play in next weeks tourney.

It's not all my eggs in one basket, I have 3 units of Long Fangs and 4 units of Wolf Guard all sporting missile launchers. 22 shots per turn! I've also got TWC and chainfists in every WG unit (who all sport bp/ccw). If I was just relying on one unit I'd reconsider, but my entire army doing absolutely jack all while my TWC failed 3++ saves all day? Hell, my Rune Priest managed to roll 3 1's for Living Lightning (at BS5 with his Chooser) in two separate games. Sad panda, but still funny.
I made my share of mistakes and learned plenty from it, but even if I had done it all right my dice were just down on me.
The first scenario was wonky for sure, right out of 4th edition, but the other two seemed ok.

yea, it was disappointing for me too. I needed a drink anyway (didn't bring money for soda, hot wings for lunch didn't help matters).
Ah well, I learned some valuable lessons for next time.
1) bring powerfists in all bike squads... I can't afford to loose combat against a cheap unit, on the off chance i'll fail my morale check and flee off the board.
2) command squad needs to stay back and shoot, near the rest of the bikers, so I can use the flag to re-roll all morale checks.
3) don't hold the entire army in reserve against a mechanized opponent who has the ability to be in my deployment zone by turn 2.
I don't think its an inherent problem in my list, just me not knowing what i'm doing, and a few minor tweaks needed (POWERFISTS)

You can always use combat tactics, unless you brought Khan.

I also took 3rd and earned my invite to the finals woohoo! Thanks to Jay also for the Gamesday tickets, that was a very awesome score.
It was a very interesting and entertaining day for sure. The first mission was just FUBAR. Not enough clarification or proofreading (d3+2 objectives but scoring was table quarters, kill your own commander, killpoints, terrain pieces). I shot myself in the foot 3rd round not reading objective scoring fully and realizing the enemy objective was worth 5 and your own was worth 1.
I'd still like to see solid comp scoring guidelines in writing. I went way out of my way to not use any duplication after my post last month about comp scoring and people said I would be docked for using 2 Tervigons or Trygons. There was one army with 2 Vindicators that got full comp, one army with at least 700 points in heavies 3 carnifex, trygon, 3 tervigon and got full comp. Not complaining, I would just like to know how much I can get away from my "1 of everything" list and not get penalized.
It was nice not having to worry about IG/Leafblowers, and nice to see a great mix. 4 Tyranid players each with totally different lists, at least 5 Chaos Marines - Khorne themed, Plague Marines, Noise Marines, Iron Warriors, lots of Space Marines - Dark Angels, Deathwing, Wolves, Ultras, Salamanders, Blood Angels, a couple Eldar, a couple Orks, one Dark Eldar (Tim is a super nice guy and prolly one of the best sports I've ever played). We are a lucky group to be able to pull together 32 dedicated hobbyists with such diverse armies at a venue with such amazing terrain and generous hosts.
I'm stoked for 'Ardboyz this coming Sat. to see the other end of the army list spectrum. GG guys.

the problem, chumbalaya, is not passing checks when I want to fail.... its failing checks when I want to pass. And the whole "I choose to fail" thing is a good enough reason to not take khan in itself, I think... with only 3-4 units on the table, it really gives people the choice to either assault me or shoot me.... you can't do both, because if you kill just 3 guys, i'm out of there, and your not gonna get an assault that turn Loosing to units like a single deffkopta is just stupid, especially when I cause 10 wounds in my assault phase... which is why I think I need to include power fists. Don't give my opponents the chance to make 9/10 4+ armor saves, and he won't pass them all >< hyv3mind, grats on the invite to the finals! I'll see you there You can do pretty much anything with nids and not really score poorly with comp. I'd say 2 of any unit wouldn't be a penalty for comp. Once you start taking 3 or more, or if you take 2 VERY EXPENSIVE / POWERFUL units (dont know if the nid codex has anything like this, i'm looking at thunderwolves mostly) , then your in -comp territory. As for the marine list taking 2 vindicators and getting full comp... I think that was doug's nurgle CSM? He took a full nurgle army, with no lash of submissions. Thats a full comp score army in my opinion. As far as the nid player who took 3 fex / 3 tervigon..... judges may be a bit crazy. I wouldn't score that full comp... but thats just me.

Just wanted to stop by and say I had a GREAT time with my half-painted Crimson Fist army. I went 1-2 and almost went 2-1 if it weren't for failing the "roll a 3+ and I win" on the last game. My poor LRC got a total of one shooting phase off in the first two games, each time picked off by one TL-Las shot.
I'll agree on the first mission, it took myself and my opponent about 10 minutes and a meeting with the rules judge to figure out what we were looking at. WAY too confusing. I was also disappointed that the rules judge wrongly decided that if Pedro was dead he was no longer "included in my army" and therefore my units were no longer Stubborn. Thankfully he double-checked and they got it right.
I'm not familiar with anybody and suck at names, but what army did Jay play? I left shortly after my third game because I wasn't really sure what else there was to happen and I wanted to get the drive back over with.
I was trying to stick to a fluffy Crimson Fist no tactical marines list, but my scouts simply failed. The snipers managed to kill about 4 models in three games, and the outflanking CC scouts in a storm never ever got to shoot, assault, or capture anything. I think I'll just take my two token 5 man no frill scout snipers list and keep them in reserve for as long as my dice will allow.
It doesn't help that I played a Drop List against 3 marine armies that could just barely out-assault my pedro led Sternguard (Wolves, Black Templars, Khorne CSM). I'm so used to playing against Guard in my FLGS.

I went 1-2. Lost to a nicely painted and competitive DE army where my opening salvoes of missile launchers managed to do naught but blow up a single Raider. That was me with the DE. Your dice rolling was fairly absurd, it would've been a completely different game if more missiles had landed turn 1. And for all of the grief people give you online, I had a great time in our game. Tim is a super nice guy and prolly one of the best sports I've ever played Aw gee wiz. And I just want to second what everyone else has been saying, I thought the tournament was a blast and the terrain looked fantastic. Thanks to the guys at Millennium for another great time.

I'll drink to that. I enjoyed all my games, but I had the most fun getting almost tabled. Losing a fun and competitive game > crushing a noob or poor sport any day. I get grief for my preference for stiff competition, but a lot of it stems from the common misconception that strong list = poor sport. It's annoying, but doesn't bother me all that much. I know what I'm about and I know how to compete and have fun, and that's all I need. We're gonna have to get another game in some time Tim, that was one of the best games I've had in a while. horst, maybe you want Calgar then Usually Ld9 is all you'll need, but dice can be jerks. In my 2nd game I had a unit of WG run off the board and a unit of Long Fangs ran off and stopped 1" away from the edge. Also, the pinning from that d**nable Horrorfex I'd say just steer clear of the board edge and you should be ok. Grats on your placing hyv3. I wouldn't worry so much about comp personally. Take a sound army and play your best. Tyranids are in a weird place right now. The book isn't the newest out, but it's easily one of the most complex and difficult to pin down. One man's cheese is another's crap so people's opinions on what is hard and what is "friendly" (weird terminology, since a collection of models really can't be friendly or mean, it's up to the player is it not?) are going to vary wildly. Take what works for you and once people figure out where and how bugs stack up, you can alter things to appease the dark gods of comp if you want.
