Ok, Here is an Idea. Lets turn this around and ask the Tau players out there, how would one defeat thier army. (as Major SoB tried to do)
-Is it a matter of people not taking the right wargear/weapons? -Is it they are taking the wrong vehicles or too little or not enough? -How do you deal with the longer range -The backing up -the Pop up attacks -the skimmer issue -the blocking of assualt by skimmers
I think those are some of the most popular issues people have with the Tau. If I missed something please feel free to add anything.
Share with us your wisdom Tau players and show us non tau how superoir you really are.

Aparently you aren't the only one with that problem. My inexperienced brother smacked around a Tau player at the Den tourney today. He said he didn't really have any trouble at all.
This is by no way to be construed as saying that Tau are easy to beat. Just certain players with Tau.

Hi everybody! this is my first post, probably not a good one to start, but i like the challange!
What you have to remember about 40k is, Its not what the army can offer, but how well it can preform to the missions! Tau have a great fast moving army. But if they take to many fast moving options then they reduce there numbers. If they go for firepower, they lose there mobilty! A good tau player will strive to do both... but that is often easier said then done! Over all New Codex's allways suck to play against until there rivals come out! And Eldar....... will probably give them a run for there money!

Yeah, but when you go mobile, you have either the piranah wall or the hammerhead weapons. So when you lose pulse rifles, you gain the weapons on the hammerhead, and I would rather have those.

Were the templars a problem? How about the Tyranids? Or the Witch Hunters?

Dont even go there with how much better they made bugs entirely across the board. (another army that had no serious update need) Every single unit got better with the possible exception of biovores, most things got faster and now have better armor and are immune to instant death. Withchhunters? If the old board was still around you could read how much their magic phase and hey all these upgrades from a storm trooper cost 1pt caused discussions. Templar are just mmodified marines, they got some ups and some downs, the only reason they are not complained about is they kept the army ballanced with normal marines.

COLONEL CATACHAN, SINCE BRIAN DRIFTED, I LIKE THE OLD TYRANIDS: 1) 2 WINGED HIVE TYRANTS 2) OLD LICTOR RULES 3) HIVE MINDS ON GAUNTS 4) GENETIC ALTERING ON GAUNTS (SPECIES).
BUT: I LIKE THE NEW CODEX ALSO, GENE STEALER FLEET OF FOOT & THE ELITE CARNEFEX OPTIONS, THE BROOD LORD, I'M UNDECIDED. GET BACK TO TAU, AND WELCOME POPKHORNE.
P.S. GET USE TO BIG TYPE, CIAO! ;D ;D ;D

Having faced Ben and Tommy, I feel the Tau are not quite as bad as I feared, but then again the Piranhas have not been put in play yet either, not have I seen Vespid yet. I reserve judgement until both these units begin to get play. I do agree with you Tommy in that the new rules do not affect the way you have typically played Tau in the past and currently, however I still have fear of these new units have the potential to be gamebreakers.

I shall defend my right to sucky templars to the bitter end. I still insist they are not on par with normal marines and it's disgusting to say but they are a far cry from ultra's.
But that's another story all togeather.

What i meant by "new codex's always suck" is that when they come out, everybody always looks into the one item that has the potential of being repetitive and makes it out to be cheesy because of it. for example new nid codex... 6 carnifex's, back then everybody was a little flip sided about it, now, not such a big deal. There are allot of examples going all the way back to first edition! and I can go on and on about those. the point I'm trying to make is not to look at the bad but what is the good thing about them taking it! Back to the nid codex, If they take 6 carnifex's, thats alot of points, to make them effective there going to have to put some decent upgrades.. more points, and when the smoke of the printer is done printing up his Godzilla army, he has 20 models! As hard as it is to kill 6 carnifex's, how well is he going to be able to "complete " his mission. not easy! its going to take some serious tactical skills and good dice rolling for him to pull that off with any seasoned player!

I was thinking about it last night, and 4th edition really screwed the Necrons. After the Orks, Eldar, DA, and Xenos Hunters, the Necrons should be next.
Here is my reasoning.
1) Ponderous does nothing anymore since skimmers that move 6 inches or less just land and the monolith only moves 6 inches.
2)There are lots of simply bad units. Pariahs, Heavy Destroyers, even the Nightbringer!
3) I find myself using one or two pages of the codex every games!
And just so ya know Tom, Witchhunters are NOT over the top!!! Ask my dad. They can be good, but they are only toughness 3.

I'm thinking Necron's should just 'be next'. Then Eldar, Orks, and 5th edition.
I would like to see Necrons get a few more options.
